She pressed her face against his chest, or rather, a hard breastplate on it. "I don't know anymore."

"...we have time," he said, kissing her on the temple. "We have all the time you need..."

She turned all the way around and inched back from him. "I don't think I can do this right now..."

Loki stood, with a tight, resigned smile.
"Very well. I don't expect you to adjust immediately. I have some luggage to empty, besides."
He produced it with a small, complicated hand gesture, and it manifested near the bedroom in the form of a large locked trunk, which Loki crossed to and opened with another small gesture. Inside was a heap of folded clothes and a few suede satchels, which he gathered and carried into the bedroom. He set them on the bed and began divesting himself of his cloak and armor to reveal the softer, plainer.clothes underneath.

Teja gently sat herself on the edge of their couch, trembling like a very ragged leaf, and put her arms around herself. Her mind was a buzz of thoughts, many of them quite loud and terrible. She was getting a terrible feeling, like she'd meant to say something to Loki earlier and could no longer remember what it had been, and now she could not re-insert it because things were changing forever.
And she felt a little trapped, also, which she knew was far from what Loki had intended but was the result nonetheless.
Furthermore, she felt like Loki was now mad at her, so wearily she got to her feet and joined him in the bedroom, biting her lip, and trying to look like a good girlfriend.

He smiled at her over his shoulder.
"I have something to show you," he said. "Behold-"
He pulled a flat silver chain from inside of his shirt to show her the dull silver triangle at its end.
"An amulet against the heat."

She smiled wanly.

"It is for me more than you," he conceded. "Oh- here we are."
He produced another necklace- this one more of a high openwork choker- from a satchel and moved.toward her.
"This was my grandmother's," he said, holding it out toward her. "I never knew her, of course, but, well, here it is."

She darted right back into the doorway as if he had taken out a venomous snake.
"I can't accept anything from you I would have to give back if we broke up. I would feel blackmailed."

"You can keep it. No one will miss it. I nicked it from the vault."

"Loki!" she responded, though it was more in a loud whisper, aghast.

"You don't want to know how much Father's lost from the vault," he said dryly, "and if I'm to be king I may do as I please with it."

"But what if we break up?" she countered. "What if your heart is broken and you never want to hear from me again?"

He stared at her for a moment and put it away again.
"You're right. I ought not to rush things. You've been crying, after all. Come here, love, and rest."
It occurred to him, in an odd, detached way, that he hadn't cried at all himself during this conversation. He moved his things aside to make room for her.

"I think I'm gonna take a shower," she said a little numbly, turning and walking out.
She had taken a shower that morning and right now she wanted to sleep more than anything, but her heart had seized up in her chest at the thought of getting into bed beside him. She tried not to think that bode ill.
As she had showered that morning, it was largely an excuse to sit on the floor of the tub and cry very quietly. The sound and heat of the water was soothing to her, but even though the immediate noise of the anxiety diminished, her sense of isolation remained. Graf von Krolock seemed very far away, and his intellectual interest in this information was not pleasing. It occurred to her to call David or Adrian Veidt off in Greece, but both of them seemed dissatisfying for various reasons.
She didn't have any friends, and she needed someone to talk to. But there wasn't anyone. It was chipping away at her slowly over time and she wasn't sure what to do about it.
When she returned to their bedroom, her hair mostly dry and her skin oiled, wearing her teddy, she climbed listlessly into bed and rolled onto her side, turned away from him.
