Silva tsked.
"Some widows have a very good time, I will have you know. I only meant if the two of you have been enjoying yourselves -- he must be missing your company, out on Staten Island."

"He's here in Greece. But I haven't seen him today. My father is trying to seduce him away from Oscorp."
She demurely finished her fig.
"Do you want to talk about him?"

"Oh my. I wish both of them the greatest happiness -- are you suggesting that I ought to be jealous?"
Silva leaned back, rearranging his arms.

Nina flushed a little predictably. "Not like that, thankfully!"
She started in on the prosciutto herself.
"I don't believe you would even know how to be jealous."

"I've never been a jealous man -- how happy for both of us. Though you're a beauty to be envied, my dear Nina."

"I'm happy to hear it," said Nina, whose expression and voice evinced no such happiness. "But it wasn't out of fear of your jealousy that kept me out of Curt's bed, I'm sorry to say."

"Fear of disappointment?"

"I have no idea what Curt's reluctance is," she said, a little more airily than she felt. "We've been very close."

It was very difficult not to be transparently smug about the whole thing, though Silva looking very conspicuously veiled and mild was not much better.
"I'm sure it has nothing to do with lack of inclination and more to do with a deficit of ability."

Nina looked absolutely shocked. "All right, not another word about Curt!" she said, vehemently tearing into a piece of fruit with her teeth.

"I seem to have touched a nerve," Silva said, audibly amused by the prospect. "Forgive me."

"I don't think Curt is impotent, but whatever you think is going on with him I deeply regret sharing with you any details of our relationship."

"I didn't mean like that, only that you are a lovely young girl, and he is by all your accounts rather-- hmm, mild--"

"He likes me very much!" said Nina, temper flaring, not because of the aspersions on her beauty or attractiveness but because of the aspersions on Curt's passion. "I wouldn't say that he is mild."
It was absolutely bizarre to be talking of Curt - to be thinking of Curt's mouth on her breasts, as a matter of fact - in Silva's presence. It was like two things that did not exist in the same universe were visible all at once. "At any rate, forget I said anything about him. I don't want to talk about it anymore. You! You are incorrigible in every way- and I don't think you're at all sorry-"

"I have a great deal to be sorry for, not least of all leaving you in such ungratifying company." He reached under the table, seeking to squeeze her knee.
