Jess looked down at her watch and tapped it, thinking maybe it would make it go faster, as if her watch controlled the universe around her. It didn't of course, it just kept on ticking in the same slow rhythmic beat all watches did.
"One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississi-" she leaned back in her chair and looked up at the sky, only to find it blocked by two large shoulders "Steven!"

"Were you counting the seconds?"

"On the Mississippi system" Jess popped up kissed him lightly on the cheek, a greeting she'd sadly picked up by all the horrible high society ladies she'd been forced to deal with working at the museum. "I think my watch is slow."

He returned the kiss with about as much enthusiasm as she'd given it and smiled "Or I'm just early."

She picked up his wrist and held her watch next to his and watched a moment "Nope, it's slow. Sit down I all ready ordered your coffee, but it's probably getting cold."

Steve shook his head.
Jessica Cartwright was probably the most interesting person he knew. She had a lot to say and in the few months he'd known her she'd talked a lot. although in all those words he doesn't remember her saying much of anything. Maybe she wasn't interesting, but she said enough words to convince him she was.
He sat down and grabbed the coffee, it was still strange to be drinking anything than army regulated mud, but it did the job.
"Hows the uh, museum thing?"

Jess laughed "The uh, museum thing is doing okay. Bunch of old guys, no offense-"

"Do you know what they've had me do? I warned them some of the pieces Dr. Jones found might not be safe to, you know, be around people? And you know what their response was?"

"I don't know."

"Throw as masquerade ball!" She laughed and took a sip of her coffee, barely swallowing it before continuing to speak "And, and throw it at the Met. Can you believe that? Tony says I should just cut and run but I can't, this is either going to make or break my career."
She leaned back in her seat and ran her hands through two day old dirty hair.

"I believe I've been given an invitation" he frowned "are these pieces dangerous?"

"The problem is Steve, I don't know. There's at least one piece that caused both Dr. Jones and I to act out of character and it'll be part of the main exhibit. It's going to be encased beneath two foot glass of course, but I'm not sure that it's going to help."

"That's not really important-"
