"Yes, the opera quite the shell of what it once was however, since the phantom left that is."

"It'll be okay again. It's under new management."

"So...when did you guys start living in Paris? I hope you don't mind me saying, your accents make you sound like from somewhere else."
Easily enough, she was sure they were English--László was more difficult to place. All she could think was Eastern European.

"Que ne semblons-nous pas français?"
((*"What we don't seem French?" In my worst possible French ever))

"Marie" John laughed and turned to Treszka "it's a bit of a story, short version, I was apprentice to a carpenter when I was young, found myself in Paris, met Marie's mother and with the money I had, after Marie was born, sent them back to London for the first eight years of Marie's life while I established myself here. I traveled back and forth and when I believed the time was right brought them back over here."

"I'm from London, that's why I've got this very plain English accent I'm afraid."

"There's nothing plain about it. If you want funky, listen to mine." He said with a wink.

"I don't know French...and that's a story, too," she said, laughing. "My mom's American and my dad's...Hungarian, but he spoke German, too. So I know those languages, but not the one of the region.
And you are all terribly English even living in France," she finished, teasing.
"And Hungarian accents are awesome, László. My dad had one."

John smiled "Well I'm glad, we all like our accents."

Treszka chuckled.
"Dad once said that for a while I had a weird German accent that slipped sometimes and sounded Scandinavian."

Treszka was suddenly supremely embarrassed.
"Um...no. I sound like an American." She protested, reddening.

Being one with an obviously non-English accent himself, László could understand the sensitivity that could come with how you sounded sometimes.
"You sound American to me," he said, giving her a smile small.
"And at least you don't sound like me. Or...me when I speak French." At that last, he rolled his eyes. "I make French speakers cringe."
