"Perfect," he said, sounding appreciative of the scenery--having spent as much time as he had in France, he'd gotten a case of homesickness, and the excuse of coming to bestow an honor onto the de Winters was partly because of Kat and partly motivated by wanting to see home again.

"I got lost here once, as a little girl. I was angry at my mother for making me go to bed, so I stormed out of the house after dark... they spent half the night looking for me, but I found my way back following the sound of the ocean."
She turned and then laughed sheepisly. "Sorry, that's an idiotic story. I don't know why I told it. I barely remembered it until now."

"Not at all. It sounds like the sort of thing I'd do." He said--sounding almost wistful for a moment before snapping back to the present from whatever place he'd gone to in the past.
"It's the only kind of countryside one should want to be lost in."

"The trees are not so charming when it's dark and cold," she remarked lightly, giving that particular vegetation a glance. "Rather too much like monsters. I remember trying to scare them off by roaring. I was a bit... stubborn, as a child."

Henry chuckled.
"I can quite imagine that. Would you have engaged any beasts in a duel?"

"I wrestled with a lot of dogs, and when you're an eight-year-old facing down a wolfhound, it can feel like you're up against a bear."
She scratched behind her ear. "I don't wrestle with dogs anymore, by the way."

He started to smirk, then quickly covered it up.
"I should hope not. Although I do on occasion indulge in wrestling myself, but it is against other people."

"I saw that look," she said tartly, but chuckled. "I must admit I don't wrestle people, either, and the same was true when I was a child. No siblings and not a lot of other children of the same age."

"You miss very little, I'd say. Perhaps you should become the new spy for the crown." He joked.
"But I've a feeling that you likely have a favorite sport. Yes?"
((Of course women WERE used as spies, since people always underestimated them, ha.
...oh shit, plot idea that would interfere with our current plans. Gaaaah))

((SO MANY PLANS but omg what was the idea WE COULD INCORPORATE IT))
"Dancing," she answered immediately. "I dearly love to dance. But riding is more of a sport, then, isn't it? That's second."
Dancing wasn't so much of an individual creative pursuit in the sixteenth century, rather a social activity and not a physically taxing one at that, so she figured she'd better say something so he didn't think she was some kind of ninny.

((Seriously, it was Kat either spying for the English crown or doing spying for Italy ON England. No joke.))
"Riding is certainly a sport, though I can say with experience that you are quite a proficient dancer."
As though he could forget the first time he'd seen her--and danced with her.

((Hahaha that would be BRILLIANT and the spying-for-Rome is sort of possible since they think she'll be a nice little Catholic influence on the heretic King, but Kat wouldn't really be into spying on the man she was marrying. She could totally spy for England, but I get the feeling that soon Henry's not going to want to part with her c; ))
"I appreciate the compliment but..." She chuckled and smiled to herself. "You haven't seen me dance." And she was not sure he would entirely appreciate it. "As it is I'm unfortunately a much better rider, but we can credit that to upbringing. If you don't ride, there's not much of anything to do down here, and I'd visit for whole summers."

"How unfortunate. Perhaps, if you were at court more, you could have more to do."
Was there an innuendo in there somewhere?
Why yes, yes there was.

"And how would you suggest I, ah, fill my schedule, Your Majesty?" The words weren't inherently suggestive, but Kat's expression and tone of voice certainly were.

For a moment, there was the briefest of knowing smiles on his face before it was replaced by a more mundane sly one.
"Oh, a great variety of ideas come to mind." He said, nonchalantly.
"I don't know how one could simply decide on a single one of them. Perhaps they should be tried in turn."
