"Seventeen" she smiled "you?"

"Oh, I just turned sixteen. That'd explain it."

"You are looking so much younger than that" she smiled.

"So I've heard," she sighed, flopping back onto the bed before going and starting to put her books on the shelf.
"Oh, I do wish I could read Russian. Some of these books look so lovely!"

"It's difficult for English speakers to be learning, I was trying to help my last roommate, but it was not going so well." She laughed "It is better to be learning from teacher I am thinking."

Ellie laughed. "Oh, I've got the utmost respect you learned English. It must look so odd to someone who never learned it growing up! And imagine Chinese. Not even alphabetical."
She smiled. "But if I ever read anything that was originally Russian, I'll check with you to make the translation's good. Here, would you mind terribly putting the books up? I don't care much about the order, I just want to put my clothes away before dinner."

Nattie stood up with a small bounce "I am having no problem." She went over to the shelf and began putting them away, unintentionally starting to put them in order.

"Thank you!"
Ellie began taking her clothes out and laying them on the bed, deciding which ones would go where and which ones would stay in her trunks for spring.
"So was it terribly hard to adjust to speaking another language all the time? I know I always have a go of it just adjusting to French."

"Yes and no's" she replied "I was learning English and French before I am coming here, so I am understanding of the languages, but sometimes it is hard to keep conversation up. I get confused with words" she shrugged "it is happening."
She turned about "You are having such nice clothes, if you are wanting there is much room in the closet, Paulette used it all up when she was here."

"Oh, thank you! Some of the dresses need hanging, but I should be able to get everything else on the shelves."
She went and got a few hangers to begin picking which ones to hang up for convenience.
"I speak a little German and even less Italian, but that's still the same alphabet. My mother made sure we grew up learning French--she was living in Paris when she met Papa, and so we've spent a lot of time here. I'm really not the best at languages, though. At least not learning new ones."
As could be assumed by the size of her book collection, she was more into literature.

"Well I was home schooled and my teacher happened to be fluent in both the English and the French, so I was lucky. Being Russian you would be thinking, German would be easy to learn, it is not."
She dusted off a few of her books and smiled as she pushed a few more in to the shelf "Are you having a favorite?"

"Northanger Abbey," she said without hesitation. "Some people think Austen is dull, but I think she's brilliant."
She could begin folding now. It was almost odd, to see a girl who would normally have a maid for such things doing her own folding, but she figured it was kind of pointless. She'd have it done by the time the maid got here.
"Oh, and Mr. Chekhov's work is divine! I've seen several of his shows staged in London; I can only imagine how they are in the original tongue. I doubt I'd mind not understanding a word, if it meant I got to see one of his shows!"

"He's delightful" she replied "and I must be agreeing with the others on Austen, but it may be because I am no so keen on the romances."
She sat down at looked at her work, before turning back to look at Ellie "Do you need some help with something else?"

Ellie laughed. "No men in your life?" Her teasing was well-intentioned and gentle. "Or perhaps you're convinced they can't really be like they are in books because there is one, and he isn't!" She sighed. "I think there are men like Mr. Darcy out there. Just a little more difficult to find."
She glanced over. "Oh, no, but thank you so much!"

Nattie thought of Nicki and blushed "Men like that exist, I am knowing, I am just not a fan of reading of about them, nor the blushing women that fawn over them."
