Tybalt smoothly took it from him and cracked it, managing to perfectly knock over his own walking stick from where it had been resting, then handed it back to Herbert almost formally.

Herbert, of course, had stumbled back about three feet and blinked hard when it cracked, and he still had a slightly gaping look on his face.

He shuffled off awkwardly, posture strict and nearly defiant to make up for the sudden false note he seemed to have struck.

A flurry of bare-legged, loose-haired Herbert darted out the door.
