If Herbert had been noticeable at the party, by now he was completely unignorable in a long cloak that matched his suit underneath it and a hat that matched the cloak.
"It's not very much, but it will do, I think- you can choose which room you like, of course. I like bringing new people in, it's very exciting. If you have any friends, they can stay in the other spare room..."
He pushed the large mahogany door open onto a rather spacious, dimly lit living room with the shadowy expanses of a dining room and kitchen beyond it to one side and a little hallway leading to more rooms on the other.
"...but the room with the piano is mine."
He swept inside the room and almost immediately tossed his cloak and hat over a large standing mirror, then began to circle about the place turning up little oil lamps.
"Come in, come in-"
The whole house smelled of orange blossoms.

Tybalt was already considering that choosing his own room was going to be a strain; he was not used to that, he was used to leading where directed.
Also this smelled like a woman's house, and he wasn't quite sure how to react to that beyond a little pained noise, which was the sort of sound he made when in uncomfortable social situations. Being in private under these circumstances was even more difficult than being at the party had been; at least at the party he had been following instructions the other students had given him on how to mingle. Now there were no guidelines to follow, and his posture unconsciously became even more strict and martial to compensate for his insecurity.
"I told you I won't be having any friends join me," he said, a slight frown crease dipping between his eyebrows. How many times would he have to repeat that?

"If you make new ones-"

"I don't do that," he said, a cloud of Tybalt settling over the horizon gloomy and ominously, and he put his foot up against a wooden chair and leaned forward on his knee broodily.

Herbert paused for a moment to appreciate the show with a small, head-tilting smirk.

Tybalt noticed his expression shift and tilted his head uncomprehendingly.

"Nothing, nothing," Herbert said swiftly. "You seem exhausted; you should probably lie down- do you mind if I bathe?"

"No, I would rather room with a bather," he said obliviously. "Which room is mine?"

"That's up to you, though one has a much better view of the gardens out back," Herbert said blithely as he began untying his hair. "Whichever one you take will be yours, and if anyone else shows up they'll just have to make do with what's left over."
He slung the ribbon that had apparently been holding his hair over one shoulder and then undid the little leather strip that had actually contained it, before slipping off his jacket and starting on his cravat.

Tybalt did not immediately recognize he was being made audience to a striptease.
"Whichever you think is best. It's all the same to me," which was quite true; the rooms were all so equal he couldn't have chosen for himself without great hardship.

"Fine, you take the one with the view. I'm feeling nice today."
He started down the hall, dropping the ribbon in the process of beginning to unbutton his vest.

Tybalt got quickly to his feet and went after him to pick it up and hand it to him. "You dropped-"

"Oh!"
He turned.
"Thank you, darling-"

Tybalt gave him the flattest flat look to have ever flattened a person's eyebrows.

Herbert blinked at least three times in rapid succession.
"Yes?"
