She eyed him thoughtfully for a moment.
"Going nowhere in particular?"
She knew that feeling, sadly.

"I was told to see the world, so I've started here."

"Not a bad place to start. But you should have a goal in mind. Something to work toward."
She still couldn't believe she was having this conversation, but then, stranger things had happened to her since coming here.

"What goal should I have?" He tilted his head "There is no point to my existence therefore I should wander until a point is found?"
Louis shook his head "I've lived an unfortunate life and not well."

She gave an exasperated sigh.
"What is it you want? Are you looking for something? You can't wander aimlessly. You'll drive yourself crazy if you do."

"If I drive myself insane, will that then give you a reason to remove me?" He raised his eyebrow "I only wish to see if there is a place for me in this world. I've been told-" he laughed "-I've been told that I think far too much and that one day I will brood myself to death. Although I must argue that those who do not think enough end up being much like my, brothers and sisters."
He hated calling them that, it disgusted him to be part of a family of maniacs.

((I bet Daniel was one of the people who told Louis he'd brood himself to death. It sounds like the kind of thing he'd say xD))
"Everyone has that problem, you know. Now knowing how they belong. And nobody can answer that but you."
Michelle understood that very well, considering the short existential crisis she'd gone through that had ultimately led her to leaving her home and (accidentally) her own dimension.

((Oh he totally would and Louis would just roll his eyes and wish everyone would go away))
"Before I was this, thing, I lost my brother" he sighed "it was my fault. I never allowed myself to heal from it, when he was alive I had purpose, I had a plantation in France, I had money, a title, a life. But his death drove me to seek an end and, as I said earlier, when it came I showed such cowardice. I could have simply died and ended this misery, but I was a fool and now-"
He adjusted his gloves "-now I stand here in a side street with a hunter who hates me as much as I hate myself for my cowardice."

She frowned.
"Look, I can't tell you what to do, but I do know that if you let those feelings go to far, it can drive you insane. Start with what makes you happy, at least--what does? A person? A place?"

"What makes me happy?"
Louis replied as if he barely understood the sentiment. He hadn't even attempted that train of thought in so long, it was honestly almost foreign to him.
"Everything that made me happy, only strives to bring me misery now" he sighed "at this moment my only happy memory is leaving Paris."

She almost told him he was hopeless, but managed to resist.
"Really? There's nothing? Nothing at all? There must be something."

He thought carefully. Part of him wanted to tell her that his murdering of Lestat did, at times, bring a smile to his face. But he imagined that might destroy what seemed to be a careful truce.
"I know two good men" a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips "I am lucky to call them friends".
And in Laszlo's case, lucky he didn't kill him.

Well, finally. And people thought that she kept things to herself too much. Though now she wondered what sort of people he'd know.
"Humans? Other things, maybe not vampires?"

"One a human yes. The other is one of my kind, but he operates very much under the same moral code I happened to."
Alex had been the one who'd told him to take this trip, Louis was wondering if he should have taken him with him.

A human friend? Well...wasn't she being, if not friendly, then at least open?
"Where are they now?"
