John nodded "Hell anyone would be lucky to have you" shrugging he took a drink of tea "I haven't had a relationship since.. Amras when Marie was much younger."

He shook his head, unable to believe.
"What could someone possibly need from me, aside from the obvious? And I, sir, am bad luck."
He gazed at John with sympathy.
"You shouldn't be alone. Not you."

"Oh shh you" he shrugged "It's not easy to be with me, I've got two teenage daughters and I run a full time homeless shelter, I'm also dedicating part of my time to the Sweet Daughters of Christ Orphanage down the road. That and, it's not easy being an openly gay man in this day and age" he hung his head.

He moved on impulse, and for once it was László pulling John into comforting arms instead of the other way around.
"All of your work shows just how generous you are, just how much you care--anyone would be a fool not to notice how genuine that never-ending compassion of yours is." He said quietly.
"I think, sometimes, you give too much, and never ask anything for yourself. But sometimes, you should. No one should expect someone like you to give all the time and get nothing back."
He drew back a bit, to meet John's eyes, internally shocked at all of this coming out of his mouth--since when when was he the great comforter?
"And you're very easy to live with. I have no complaints. As for your preferences...if someone dismisses you because of that, then you didn't need them anyway."

As Laszlo talked, John listened, carefully, as he was one to do.
Although his mind kept reminding him of how odd a situation this was, he listened, nodding with deep eyes as he continued.
As Laszlo finished John smiled, his eyes a little misty "I-" he chuckled and looked down at the table "I, thank you."

"You're welcome." He said softly.

Turning his head toward Laszlo's face, he swallowed, then stood up.
What his mind was telling him to do, would ruin a friendship he'd never want to loose.
"Damn" he whispered, turning back to Laszlo with a smile.

László stayed sitting, feeling oddly serene as John turned toward him with a smile. The former rentboy had a feeling as to what had been averted, but he kept that fact to himself--he sensed a very delicate balancing act going, and didn't want to be the one to knock things off-kilter.
"Now don't go selling yourself short later after I said all that," He said, in a voice that was a parody of the admonishing tone a parent took.
"I'll be very disappointed in you."

John laughed and nodded "I won't uh, sir."

He chuckled.
"God, nobody ever calls me 'sir'. It feels weird."

"Well get used to it" he smiled thanking god that the situation had been diffused.

"I don't think I will," he said good-naturedly, getting to his feet.
"Um...what do you wear to work at a library?"

"Slacks, sweater vests, button down shirts, you know, work casual."

László made a face.
"Sweater vests? Pass."

Laughing he went over to the fireplace and poked at it "I'm sure you don't have to."
