Nattie listened intently, she wanted to know everything "I am reading of a man in the papers back in Russia, his name, is it the same as your last?"

Gustave-Vincent d'Enjolras. Say, if I were Russian, would my name be Nikolai Gustavoff?"

"Sometimes" she smiled "this is for people that are of lower status, sometimes they are not knowing of their heritage" she sighed "so they are taking the first name of their parents as their last. Such as in Italy, last names were generally just where you were from, say Vernelli da Firenze as in Vernelli of Florence."

"Well, we certainly know our heritage... at least on one side. The title's been around since William the Conqueror. We were in England for a few centuries before returning to Normandy."

She took another sip from her champagne and sat it down, she'd forget it existed in a moment "What about your mother?"

"She... she's been gone for a long time."
This was technically true, as both her coma and her departure could be considered 'gone.' He hoped Nattie would assume she was dead, because frankly, that would have been better.

Her eyelids grew heavy and she touched his hand "It is hard to loose someone at such a young age, I am loosing my oldest sister when I was just six."

He squeezed her hand briefly before smiling sadly.
"Best we can do is move on. It hit Adi the hardest, and look how happy she is now."
Truly, he was happy for his sister. Despite all she'd done, he loved her very much and wanted only the best for her.

((I'm currently working on her family history, quite an undertaking for someone who's totally stupid when it comes to Russia. I am learning so much because of this girl! I also found out her last name is supposed to be Petrova not Petrov. Damn Russian names.))
Nattie smiled and retracted her hand ever so gracefully "You are not minding that I am probing are you?" She asked with a confident smile.

((Lol it's all good. Also, impressive undertaking.))
He grinned back. "Miss Petrova, you are one of the few women who can be called upon to put up with me for longer than a quarter of an hour. Probe all you like; I am obligated to oblige you."

He laughed. "Be glad to. Chuck Bass... he's American. New money, not that that matters, but his father made it all. He and Adi have broken up and reunited more times than I can keep track of, because neither of them find it easy to trust people... but I know that deep down, he's a good man. He's good for Adi, and she's good for him. Most importantly... I know I've never seen her smile so much as when things are going well between them."
Well that had been unintentionally sappy, but such was life.

Nattie couldn't help but smile.
"American and new money, this would be more than enough for alarm back in Russia" she laughed "if I was to tell my Papa that I was dating an American I am sure he would disown me."
