As always, the house was all bedecked in the finest accoutrements, as was appropriate for a ball. Much of high-society Paris had seen fit to show up in their best, and most were dancing to lovely music.
Nicki was a bachelor, so to be proper his sister had to be his hostess. This was another reason for the good turnout--everyone loved a scandal, and Adrienne had a way of not at all caring about people's opinions of her life that intrigued them. She still managed to be charming and witty and all the things hostesses were supposed to be. Holding court among several guests in a resplendent gown, she made a very fine picture.
The host was also up to snuff, as far as wardrobe went. He had worn his best evening suit and his favorite cravat, and could not deny that he was a little excited. Anyone who was watching closely would have seen that he was bouncing on his heels. He greeted guests with perfect grace and charm, but kept looking towards the entrance, as if waiting for someone.

Nattie had been given the opportunity the week before to go out (with someone to watch her of course) and buy a new gown. It was black with a low square front, fashionable she decided, but mature. Her escort had scoffed about it's low neck, although Nattie had assured her that it was quite all right. Stepping carefully from the carriage she had hired to take her there for the night, she headed promptly to the door. She of course would know very few people there, a few girls from her school had said something about attending with their parents, but Nattie had mostly ignored them. Catching Nicolas's eye she grinned.

It was only proper; Nattie would have to geet the hostess first. Said hostess, kitted out in lovely dark blue that matched her eyes, shared a quick glance with Nicolas before moving to greet the newest arrival.
Adrienne curtseyed deeply and gracefully.
"You must be Countess Nadezhda," she said as she rose and extended a hand. "I'm the Lady Adrienne, Nicki's sister."

Nattie returned with a curtsy of her own, she was a bit less graceful as this was a new dress and she had yet to really get a hold of it. But she managed to pull it off with the best she could.
"I am, it is a pleasure to meet you Lady Adrienne" she smiled confidently as she took Adrienne's hand, shaking it slowly, but firmly, something her father had told her went through her mind.
No matter the gender, a handshake will reflect on who you are, if you are confident, it will be strong, if you are not, it will be weak.

"And you as well, but I'm sure you're here to see Nicki, not me. Unfortunately, for appearances' sake, we'll have to stand here talking for at least thirty seconds so that all of Paris doesn't believe my brother is inappropriate." There was a teasing lilt in her voice. She herself didn't care much for appearances, but Nicki placed some store in them, and while she'd trampled on her own reputation, she wouldn't tarnish Nicki's. "I find the weather, shameless gossip, and criticism of others' gowns always provide ample conversation."

Nattie tried not to giggle to hard "Then let the 30 seconds of the gossiping begin" she turned softly as a girl from her school came in wearing almost a matching dress to her mothers and smirked. "Those two" she said from the side of her mouth still smiling "are horrible, they are gossiping worse than ten girls schools and they wear the worst things, but pay so much for them."

"Where do they even manage to find such things?" She searched the room for her own victim. "Oh, lovely, Appolonia's wearing orange. What would possess someone to buy that silk in that color?"
((sorry I like disappeared from your life; I was breaking in a new character))

((No problem love.))
"Maybe she enjoys looking like the pumpkin" Nattie laughed "it is unfortunate, she could be pretty if she wasn't so nasty."

"... And if she didn't dye her hair." Adrienne pretended to check her watch. "Oh, two hairs past a freckle; I think we've fulfilled all requirements of decency." She smiled.

Adrienne cursteyed as well.
Nicolas could be seen watching the pair a little bit anxiously. When Adrienne looked over at him, he pretended he hadn't been paying attention. She rolled her eyes.
"I think somebody wants to see you."

"He's rather like a puppy," she said, with no small measure of affection. "He gets excited, and it's hard for him not to show it."
With that, Adrienne smiled knowingly and moved on to the next guest.

Finally making it to Nicki she curtsied and tried not to grin so widely "Good Evening."

Nicki bowed his deepest and kissed her hand. "Bonsoir, Mademoiselle la Comtesse," he said as he rose. "I see you've met my sister?"
