He laughed.
"So they think we're silly in Russia? I suppose we make assumptions, too. We think you're all bearded men in fur hats who sit around, drinking vodka."

"That-" she giggled "-is mostly true. My father, he is drinking like the fish and he's got quite the beard, the women, well I have seen some of them that are just the same."

He cringed exaggeratedly.
"With the drinking, or the beards?"

"Well-" she held back a big laugh "I would have to be saying both, there is quite a lot of the- err, what is it called, testosterone? Yes, quite a bit of that in our women, they are saying our women were made of the same clay that god created Adam, only they were sneaky and god lost them, so he had to make Eve."

A genuine laugh escaped him. "Well I certainly see none of it in you."
His eyes caught the light and seemed to twinkle charmingly.

She smirked, catching his eyes, for a moment she wanted to grin and twirl around. But her instincts told her not too, her instincts told her just to continue dancing. She'd trained herself not to react to situations like the other girls, she was, as her father told her, both an ambassador and a child of privilege.
They finished the dance without another word. As they music stopped, they clapped and she exhaled.

An idea sprang to mind.
"Would you like to go on a picnic tomorrow? If don't have any other obligations."

She turned to him with a blink "A picnic?" she replied, as if the idea of a picnic was completely foreign to her. "I don't imagine why not, it would have to being the morning of course, I have music lessons in the evening."

"An early lunch, then. I'll pick you up at your school around eleven?"

((Oh that is going to drive Nattie crazy lol))
"Yes, that is if they are allowing me to go" she smiled "so many things I have done, unaccompanied. They are saying that I am getting special circumstances" she shook her head and started heading off the dance floor to get something to drink.

He walked with her and offered her an arm.
"Well, my sister doesn't exactly have a sterling reputation; I can see why they'd be nervous. Though," he teased, "if they insist on a chaperone, try to secure a narcoleptic one."

And she took it with class "They are knowing that I am not like the other girls, so they are treating me like this. But they still must make sure that I am not going out and fornicating with young wealthy Parisian men whilst under their care." She kept her voice down, as to not bring attention to the words she was saying.
She knew that, to be open minded, in society, was a sin.

His face formed into one of shock.
"Miss Petrov, you shouldn't speak of such things!"
But he couldn't hold the joke for very long before breaking out into a sheepish grin.
"I mean, we're terribly rich but we're also terribly scandalous, even back to my parents. I can see why they would be concerned for your virtue or what have you."

She laughed "As I can tell" she took two flutes of champagne from a waiter and handed one to Nicolas. "Your parents, you are not telling me anything of them until now." She sat down at a table as another dance started, reminding herself not to cross her legs, but her ankles "I want to know of them, if you would."

His face sobered just a little--the question didn't make him shut down, but he was understandably more serious.
"My father died a few years ago. He was a great man--he led two revolutions. The most recent one overthrew Richard and Marie the usurpers... I fought in it. He had strong ideals. I looked up to him."
