To say that he was upset would be an understatement. László, while not disrespectful of law enforcement, had always kept a wary distance from them--he knew what the score would be if he were ever caught. He was mostly as hysterical as he was at first because it had been one of his worst fears realized. Although he was calmer than when he'd initially been arrested, he was still disraught. He'd always been terrified of ending up in a jail cell.
And now, here he was.
He tried to do what he always did, to force past it, but it wasn't really working this time. So he sat, knees drawn up to his chin, staring blankly at the opposite wall.

The sound of the doors opening at the end of the cell block could have woken the dead. John wanted to plug his ears, but he contained that thought and kept his hands in his pockets.
He'd only been here once before, so it had taken him a bit to find it. As he only had enough money on him to hopefully post Laszlo's bail, he couldn't catch a cab.
When they reached Laszlo's cell, John tried to smile "Hey there."

At the sound of the familiar voice, he snapped out of that blank state and turned toward John.
"Hello." He said weakly.
"I didn't think anyone knew I was in here."
It didn't help that he was in bad shape, thanks to struggling with the damned vampire. So on top of being upset, he was also hurting.

"I didn't" he smiled "a young woman named Lucy Harris found out you were here and happened to know that you stayed at the shelter, I-" he stopped "-you're hurt, officer" he turned to the policeman "his shirt is covered in blood and you don't even think to ask how it happened?"
Before the officer could respond John stopped him "Of course not, every day I hear of people being ignored here, ones with broken bones, bleeding, fainting. And do you care? No, of course not, they're all just criminals here aren't they? Get me a first aid kid and let me in the cell."
Again the officer tried to say something and John turned to him with a sneer "I think I've made myself quite clear officer."
The policeman nodded and came back with a first aid kit and some fresh water, informing the other guard to unlock the door and let John in.
Once in John knelt before Laszlo "That's all my pull around here can get me, I'm afraid I can't get you out of here."

"Don't know a Lucy--" he started to say, but then he stopped mid-sentence as John berated the police officer. László flinched at that, though he simply watched silently as John basically handed out orders.
By the time John had come into the cell, László had a faint sparkle of amusement in his eyes.
"Well, that was an interesting scene, boss." He said, teasing a bit.
"But, don't worry about it. I don't really know anyone that could get me out of here."
Well, that wasn't true, but he wasn't going to count on it seeing as how said person wasn't talking to him anymore.

"I'm sorry" he responded "it's the only way to get the police in this city to do anything, I hate having to use, as Marie calls it, my big boy voice. Makes me sound like an awful man."
He opened the kit to see it mostly unused and frowned "The cops are worse than the criminals" he muttered before replying to Laszlo "I could try and get the money, it would just be a while. How did this happen?" He motioned to the blood on his neck, he couldn't tell if it was a bite just yet.

"No, they aren't. I've never had a cop beat the snot out of me." He said, flinching when John even barely went near the wound on his neck.
"It's from a vampire...and don't you dare try to pay for this." He said, gesturing at the bars.
"Don't. I know it's not pocket change and I'd feel forever guilty about it."

"Well I have" John recalled "and they've never done anything good here, the city is still rotting, I- vampire!? Laszlo I- You shouldn't, you're my friend, friends don't mind doing things like that..."

He wanted to say that Dracheheim cops were actually decent for all that Dracheheim itself was a pit, but John's reaction to the vampire bite cut him off.
He sighed.
"It's only a matter of time before I ended up behind bars. I'm just surprised it took this long." He said with a wry smile.
"But enough people have been throwing money at me for nothing. I don't...I don't like feeling as though I'm giving nothing back."

John sighed, he knew there was nothing he could do and so did Laszlo, so he patched him up in silence. Once he was finished he stood up and stretched "You're lucky that beast didn't get too deep, you lost a bit of blood, but you'll be all right."

"Seems like that's all that ever happens anymore--I end up black and blue, you end up having to wipe the blood off."
He fell silent for a moment, going back to earlier thoughts, and then, quietly, he said:
"I'm not going back out there. I...I know I've said that before, but I mean it this time. I can't...I can't do it anymore. I think I'd end up jumping off a bridge if I did, and I can't swim."
He kept his gaze focused on his folded hands, not metting John's eye as he was afraid that if he did, he would've lost his nerve and not said any of this.
And gone on, as he always had before.

((I'm thinking of changing John from Paul Newman to Anderson Cooper... what do you think?))
John knelt down before him and took his hands, lifting his chin up "You're decisions are yours and yours alone, if you truly believe that you can stop, then you can. But if there is any doubt, any at all, then this is going to be the hardest decision of you're life."
He smiled "I believe in you, if that's any help at all."

((Well, whatever you're happiest with is fine, but I wouldn't mind--and I wouldn't have any room to say anything anyway, since Laszlo used to be modeled by someone else. )) "I'm not going back on this. I was thinking it earlier, before...before the vampire happened. I've been thinking it for a little while, now." He brushed that ever-errant lock of hair out of his face. "This whole mess just made it even more impossible to put off."

((It's just been Paul Newman for so long, I'd feel like I was cheating, haha.))
He nodded "Yes, it does seem so" he sighed and squeezed the young mans hands "but, you may be lucky enough if you attest to attempting to change, you might get a lighter sentence."

László gave a hollow little laugh.
"I don't think that'll work. I'm also in trouble for hurting that bastard." He said bitterly.
