((If you need some alone time. Or...not-so-alone, but less of the mosh pit inside.))
Nadir took his drink and wandered into the hallway, pausing by a window to watch the lit drive where still carriages were being brought forth to disgorge yet more guests.
He drained his glass with a practiced motion and sighed.
Liquor would never leave him. Liquor truly loved him. And he loved it back, and more than anything else in the world. Or anyone.

Alexander stood in the doorway, watching the man who meant more to him than anyone.
He meant so much to you that you abandoned him. No wonder he has no desire to ever be in your presence again.
"The alcohol will destroy you," he said gently.

"Oh, that's original," drawled Nadir. "No, really. I have NEVER heard that, before. Ever."
He considered the dregs in his glass and downed them, too.
"As if that's any reason to stop."

"You seem to believe that you don't need anything but the alcohol," Alexander said calmly, coming up behind Nadir.
"You're wrong. You need--you deserve light and happiness and joy, friends and people who love you."

"Tell me, do you get paid to talk as much merde as you do, or is it purely for love of the game?"

Alexander raised an eyebrow.
"I speak the truth, Nadir. I only ever told you the truth."

"And I believed you."
Nadir faced him and leaned forward slightly, the glitter in his eyes suddenly more menacing.
"My life is not your concern, Xandros. Do not imagine you have the right to question or judge me."

"I only ever loved you, Nadir!" Alexander said desperately.
"I said so in my letter!"

"What are you even talking about?"
'Are all Macedonians this cray-cray?' he muttered to himself in Farsi.

Alexander frowned.
"No, we're not," he said dryly in the same tongue.
"And I did write you a letter, Nadir. Were you so angry you tore it to pieces?"
"I can remember every word," he said quietly, "if you did."

"WHAT letter, Xandros? Stop treating me like I'm simple," snarled Nadir.

Alexander frowned.
"I left you a letter," he said gently. "A letter explaining why I had to go...so that I could end the last wars that kept me from being eternally by your side."
"A letter telling you that I was leaving to renounce forever what I had wrought--my kingdom, my empire, the whore who birthed me...and him. I went to tell him I had found another. A letter asking you to find the patience to wait, for just a few months, that when I returned I would return forever."
"Did you not receive it?" he asked softly.

*Nadir stared at him for a moment, an eyebrow cocked in bland disbelief.* "It would appear your question is rhetorical," he said flatly. He paused and rubbed the throbbing vein in his forehead. "Would it have been so difficult to just SAY it to my face?"

Alexander sighed.
"I did not want you to follow, or try and leave," he said gently.

*Nadir leaned one shoulder against the stone wall, balancing his lanky frame in a tilted slouch that suited his surly expression.
"I'll not be bidden to stay or come, not by you, not by anyone," he snapped. "If there was a letter, Edward probably got to it before I could."
