It was just about midnight, and Evie couldn't sleep, not because something had scared her or because she had too much on her mind, but because it was simply too early. If she wasn't doing homework until 2 AM, she was at someone's party until 3. She found herself taking a candle into the library to light the gas lamps, wrapping a shawl around her shoulders.

Evelyn's asking about what there was to do out here had stuck in Laurent's head, and he'd wound up determined to invite her along to one of the wild runs--even if in the end she turned it down, he would at least have put to rest his uncharacteristically resltess need to speak to her again.
So it was that he'd ridden out in the direction of the Chateau. There was only one light on, and he stopped his horse on a hillside, contemplating the scene for a moment.

She grabbed a book and tried to read, propping her feet up on the arm of a loveseat. Eventually, she began to feel drowsy, and set the book aside. Humming a bit of a tune, something between classic rock and an atonal mess, she swung her feet over the side of the loveseat, ready to stand and go back upstairs to fall asleep.

Thinking, to hell with it, he urged the horse until he was close enough to throw a small pebble at the window.

Evie turned and started, unable to keep back a small cry of surprise. Frowning, she opened the window, leaning out to look at him.
"What on earth are you doing here at this hour?"

"One part of it is boredom, the other part curiosity. Mostly, wondering if you'd be agreeable to an after-hours bit of time-wasting."

There was a part of her that just wanted to go to sleep. However, the dominant (teenage) part wanted to take him up on his offer.
"Do you often ride about the countryside, preventing young women from sleeping?" She said dryly, but her mouth turned up at the end in acquiescence.

He grinned, just a bit.
"No, not often. I have to be sure I'm not simply disturbing anyone first."

She rolled her eyes and yawned, as if it were a grand imposition.
"I suppose." With that she withdrew from the window, walked out of the room, and emerged from the front door a few moments later. Closing it quietly, she turned to face him.
"If my father finds out you'll be shot." She said plainly. "He's American; we don't bother with duels."

"Fair enough warning." He said, sounding not at all bothered.
"But I promise, I can be the soul of discretion."

"Now then, prove to me you're not all country bumpkins." She teased, with her hands on her hips. One thing she'd give to nightgowns, they were far more aesthetically pleasing under the moonlight than a pair of leggings and an old t-shirt.

He allowed only a brief glance at what she was wearing before focusing back on her eyes, and then held his hand out to her.
"Join me?"

She allowed herself to be pulled up into the saddle, and tried to settle herself into a position where she wasn't convinced she'd go flying out once they moved and also where her nightgown wasn't hitched up to her crotch. After a moment or two she decided that it was pretty much impossible, and just tried to keep her modesty mostly intact while her legs dangled, bare, on either side of the saddle.
((I wasn't sure whether you wanted her in front or behind him, so you pick.))

((We can say behind.))
Making sure that she was holding on well, he urged the horse off and away over the hillside. By the way he guided the horse, it wasn't a random course, but rather a direction he was intent on. He really had been truthful about the rides, and he would show her.

She hadn't realized how difficult it would be to stay on the horse when not the primary occupant of the saddle, and was forced to wrap her arms around his chest to keep her seat. Her legs bumped against his and she rested her face against his back.
