*She smiled.*
"Extremely. Though I saw my grandmother drunk once, and that was pretty strange." *She said.*

*Christian wrinkled his nose*
"I don't know why people get drunk...there's nothing fun about that."

((Unless you're getting drunk with your French friend and you can't figure out if you're so drunk that you can't understand his English for his accent or if he's so drunk that he's not speaking English anymore. Then it's very giggle-worthy.[/true story]))

*She shrugged.*
"I don't think she meant to, it was my cousin's wedding and they were serving very good champagne. Some people like the feeling it gives them, though. They aren't as inhibited, though that cen result in... compromising situations." *She said.* "Personally I think it's pretty stupid myself."
((btw did he think she meant sex as the thing in return? She meant a kiss.))

((Nope, he thought kiss))
"I don't drink. I almost never touch the stuff, to be honest. I've seen what it does to people and I don't want that to be me."

*She shrugged.*
"Once in a while, for a celebration in the family, maybe I'll have just a sip. But no hard liquor, that's just disgusting. We're Irish, it's hard to avoid seeing the effects."

*Christian nodded understandingly*
"It's not bad if it's once in a long while, like you were saying. Besides, people will do what they want, you can't really stop them."

*She nodded and smiled a little.*
"Well, my family was ...stifling. Huge, and loving, but there were just... too many of us in one place. I had to get out, to make my own way. I couldn't imagine growing up simply to get married to a well-off man and spend the rest of my life around my family."

*There was a flicker of sadness in his eyes*
"At least you had a family," he said softly. "All I had was my mother, and she died when I was very young."

*She blushed a little, taking his hand in a friendly, comforting manner.*
"Sorry, I wasn't thinking. Complaining about a family that loves me--I'm sure your mother was an amazing person, to have raised you alone."

"It's all right--how could you know, unless you were reading my mind? I'll be fine."
*There was a pause as he smiled*
"And yes, she was amazing. She was a wonderful violinist."

*She smiled.*
"We were all musical--whether flute, guitar, panpipes, or singing voice, nearly all of us played or sang something, and the rest were happy to listen to the veritable orchestra at family gatherings. They were thrilled when I came to Paris to become an Opera singer. I play violin, too, though not too terribly well."

"They sound wonderful." He said enviously.
"Me, I picked up some violin, but I'm really only a beginner. My real talent was in singing, as it turned out."
*He looked thoughtful for a moment*
"I wonder if...the Daae tomb is here? Maybe it has a double, too?"

*She grinned.* "You'd get along well with them."
*She thought for a second as well.*
"It's possible. I could probably get one of the stablehands to lend you a horse--I know them all by name."
