"...but Marius gets to marry his true love, in the end. I think I'd rather play that part in any case."

*She smiled.*
"Yeah. I haven't found a Cosette though, nobody with the right range and quality. I have a little cosette, but nothing else so far. Nor have I found a proper Eponine."

*Christian suddenly brightened*
"Maybe I can keep an eye out for you. It seems as though you're likely to meet just about anyone in this place."

*She laughed.*
"Yes, I suppose so. It's certainly going to be an interesting mix of people putting it on. I'm not sure, however, if I'll be able to get the Populaire. It might have to do its first run at the Phoenix, in the Quartier Latin."

"The Phoenix is another theater, yes?"
*Christian had never been to the Latin Quarter. It might be an interesting thing to see...*

*She nodded.* "I know a lot of people from there, I used to work part time. I played Mimi in their production of La Boheme, so I got a feel for voices. I'm very particular about the actors having just the right qualities and inflections in their voices, and having the proper chemistry onstage. Like Eponine's not supposed to be coming on like a fright train to Marius, just pining after him innocently. And Marius and Cosette are supposed to have this awkward, shy, almost frightened relationship. I'm especially particular about them." *She explained.*

*He nodded thoughtfully*
"Operas, especially new ones, can be difficult when you cast them. I remember when a new production came to the Populaire, nobody seemed to want to make up their minds about who would play what.
Well, except for Signor Giudicelli. He always got the lead."

*She snorted.*
"See that's something I can't stand. When they have an established Prima Donna, or Don, or whatever the case may be. Others deserve a chance as well. It's especially annoying when they're not good at all."

*He nodded*
"It wasn't that Signor was bad, but...he sang so mechanically, without any emotion. He was a technically good singer, but it wasn't...moving."

*She nodded.*
"I've known a lot of people like that--sometimes I feel like I'm one of them, to an extent. There's nothing...special or unique about my voice, I don't think."

*She smiled and blushed.*
"Thank you. I'm not sure if I believe you, but of course a performers hardest critic is herself."

"Always. I would be called an Angel when I sing, but I don't believe that's how I sound. Besides, how does one know what a singing angel sounds like?"

*She laughed a little.*
"I don't know. I wonder how people started using that term. I certainly don't sound like what I think an Angel would. Possibly an Angel who's had too much to drink, or who's had bad laryngitis for a while." *She said wryly.*

*Christian chuckled*
"A drunk angel! What a strange thought."
