Gently, Cosette reached up to touch the woman's hand, her eyes moist and a wobbly smile on her face. "Thank you...for being here for me..."
She didn't know if this was the same Eponine, but she was already so grateful for this. "Oh! Thank you for that, too. I've--I've got no place to stay."
Maybe it was coming true--her dreams of having a nice home, with a loving mother, after all.

*Eponine smiled.* "It isn't a problem..."
*She felt bad for witholding the full truth from the girl, but she didn't need to know, yet...*

Cosette insisted, shaking her head with eyes sparkling now from happiness, a few tears streaking the dirt on her face. "Non, non, merci! You are so very kind to me!" There was no way this could be the same Eponine.

*She smiled kindly.* "Alright, once the chocolat is ready, we'll head back and get you some new clothes and a bath..." *No matter who she was, Eponine was responsible for her now.*

With her mouth full at the moment, Cosette just nodded, her looks to Eponine adoring. This was looking up already: she'd been rescued, and by someone who was willing to care for her, in a pâtisserie, no less!

*Eponine's apartment wasn't far...*
"You know, my daughter's name is Aimee-Cosette. She has a little boy and a girl around your age..."

Cosette was feeling stronger now, and would be able to walk there without much of a problem.
"Oh, yes? They sound like they might be nice. It'd be fun to meet some other boys and girls my age, and we could play and everything."

*Eponine smiled and nodded.* "Yes, Johanna and Alain are about ten, and little David is about four, and another one is on the way... they'd like you. They're very sweet, like their mother. And Alexei, my son, isn't often around, but he's very good with children."

"Oh, well, I hope so, anyway," she replied, a little bashfully, blushing. It wasn't as if she had ever had much of a chance to interact with others besides Eponine and her sister, so she had to hope that she'd be likeable. "It all sounds like such a nice family..."

*She'd gone through a lot to make her family 'nice', as Cosette put it. Though initially spoiled, Eponine had truly grown up in dank, dark places, and the presence of a traditional family hadn't helped. She didn't place much store by the idea of the traditional family unit--which explained the children by different fathers, the sporadic presence of one of said fathers and the absence of another, the rooming with another woman...*
*Besides, from what she could remember and what she'd seen so far, Cosette was quiet and sweet. There was room for her at the apartment in the first arrondissement.*
*Eponine chuckled.* "A little unconventional, but yes, very nice all around."

**NEW DAY**
*When Eponine woke up in the apartment above the Patisserie a few weeks later, it appeared... well, her hands looked different. She felt different. Frowning, she went to look at herself in the mirror and...*
*She gasped. If she had been holding anything, it would have been on the floor. She reached up to touch her face... was it real? It couldn't be... but given her exposure to powerful magic, or mysticism, or whatever the Tods and Alexei were...*
*Eponine Thenardier looked about 18 again.*

**NEW DAY**
Treszka, who was awake now though very ill, had all but booted him out of the house and told him that he needed to "get out more". There was nowhere in Paris he really wanted to go, and he didn't actually know anyone. Well, that wasn't entirely true. He did know someone--somebody he hadn't seen in ages. He had wondered how she fared after all of the insanity had faded away.
So it was that der Tod dropped by the Patisserie, having heard that this was where she was these days.
"Hello? Eponine?"

*There was a loud bang from the kitchen and a strangled cry, before a voice rang,* "just a minute!" *A very floury Eponine emerged from the back, brushing herself off and coughing.*
"How may I--Tod!"

For a moment, he didn't answer. She looked not like she had last he'd seen her, but the way she had way back when he'd first arrived in Paris.
Oopes, he'd been staring.
"Eponine...it's so good to see you again."

*He, of course, looked exactly as she remembered him, but that was to be expected. She bit her lip.*
"Good to see you too... so how've you been?"
*Well, she knew Renn's death had hit him hard. Really, really hard. It was always difficult to lose someone like that...*
