*Marc flew in through the door as soon as she opened it, making sure she didn't see him. He flew swiftly into a dark corner and transformed back to the pale, tall man she had met at the library. Then he stood in the half dark corridor, watching her without a word. His eyes were glowing red in the darkness.*

*As soon as Irene saw him, she reacted without even thinking. Darting from her chair, she grabbed the crucifix at her bedside table.*

*Marc chuckled with laughter when he saw the crucifix.*
"If I had a dollar for anytime someone did that...."
*Suddenly, he was on side of her, grabbing the crucifix and pulling it out of her hand...*
"Just for once, I would like to be surprised...."
*He laughed evilly, his eyes glowing dark red against her.*

*Irene knew enough about vampires to know that things worked differently for some of them. Those who had been religious in life turned away from symbold of their former faith, while with others they only worked if the person weilding them believed.
And she didn't. After everything that had happened to her, she could not believe in god.
When he grabbed the crucifix, she jammed her knee into his stomach and ran towards the door.*

*Marc crouched forward in pain long enough for Irene to escape through the door. Finally he pulled himself together and ran through the door and after her.*

*Irene ran until she reached a church. With her luck, it was probably the one Ambrosio worked at, but still. Ignoring the startled looks of the people inside holding a funeral, she sat in the back, catching her breath.
He couldn't follow her here. She'd wait until morning when he was weaker, and tell Holmes they needed to find a new hotel.*

*Marc hissed in anger when he saw her disappear through the door of St. Paul's Cathedral. He was a strong man, but a creature of Darkness. And he had no powers over the church. He stood on the other side of the street, lurking in the shadows. Images of her beautiful face was passing through his mind, and he could hear her voice speaking to him. He felt a deep pain in the heart he didn't know he had.
The churchbells started ringing. The sound was a pain for him, but he held out. He had to see her again, if only for a moment.*

((I'm not entirely sure where Holmes went... I need to think about that. But I have to go.))

((Gone off to find Destler, I guess.))
*Irene looked out the window, trying to see if he was still there.*

*Marc saw her beautiful face in the window. The glimpse of her beautiful face, was enough to make him happy. The sun was about to rise, and he returned to his hiding place to get some well-deserved rest.*

((Gone off to find Destler, I guess.)) ((Um... okay. He wouldn't have done that until they went back to Paris, but I guess I'll fudge it. I can't imagine him leaving Irene like that, knowing what he does. But I guess he's addled.))

((No, Wild, he's supposedly dead and stuff.))
**MEANWHILE**
*Holmes had retreated to the foyer of the library to attend to a message which had supposedly arrived for him. Which was suspicious in itself, since no one was supposed to know he was in London at all.
Or alive.*

*Irene was not at the library when Holmes returned.
She was not at the hotel, either.
Through long training, Holmes did not panic. But he felt a treacherous thread of it rise within him, threatening to entangle his heart and mind. There were a hundred places she could legitimately be. Without undue danger. But with Dracula still at liberty, and with her dreams, Holmes did not actually believe they were safe anywhere.
When the churchbells ran, it remind him of something. Vampire lore. And it connected in his mind with Irene's discomfort during their journey. And, while he could call it a chain of evidence, it was more of a whim that led him to the cathedral near the hotel.*
((To be fair to Destler, by the way, his music should be amazing. And I don't see how it'd be too far outside the classical vein.))
