*Kathy held her back of spare clothes clutched to her chest, still feeling a bit green. The motion of the boat combined with wretched morning sickness had made her almost giddy, and she held onto Michael's arm as they walked up the wharf.*

"UNCLE MIKEY!" *A horde of children was, once again, there to greet him. Hannah, at around 7 was the eldest, little Jamie at 5, and Coreen and Colleen, the 3-year old twins. He went down, ending up on his butt on the docks.*
"Ach!" *He cried, mock-wounded.* "Ye're goin'te kill me!" *They all laughed and there was altogether a lot of mayhem as Michael managed to stand.*
"Alright. Kath, I don't think ye've met Jamie's kids: Hannah, Jamie, Coreen, Colleen: this is Kathy MacNamara--my wife."
*At that moment, Eileen and Jamie finally arrived. Jamie's jaw dropped and his eyes twinkled.*
"Kathy Kelly, if you haven't grown into the prettiest girl in the county may God strike me dead where I stand!" *He cried, knowing full well that his brother had married her. He had written the whole family a letter beforehand.*

*Kathy rolled her eyes and grinned conspiratorially at Eileen.*
"We could leave these two ruffians, ye know? There's a boat waitin' right there to take us back to England. See how he takes ye fer granted when it's just him an' the wee ones."
*She raised her eyebrows at Jamie, but continued to smile.*
"An' I'd have pretty Eileen do just that and run off with a handsome jackeen all the way to Madeira if I didn't know ye were head over heels for her, Jamie, ye lout."
*She let him give her a big hug and only blushed a little when he gave her a quick kiss on the lips.*
"For luck," *he said with a twinkle in his eye as he grinned at his little brother.*

"James Joseph MacNamara, don't be touchin' my wife." *He teased, taking her hand and kissing her on the cheek.*
*A little blonde head came into view, attached to a 16-year old girl who was walking serenely towards the group. Jamie was now under a pile of his own children and Eileen was talking animatedly with Kathy. The girl broke into a run.*
"KATHY!" *Aisling cried, glomping her.*

"AISLING!" *she shrieked, throwing her arms around the younger girl. The combined force of their glee knocked them both to the cobbles in a heap of giggles and petticoats.*

*Everyone laughed as Aisling stood up, looking as if she'd walked there by accident as always.*
"You're back." *She said airily.* "How long are you and Michael staying?"

"A fortnight," *she said, still laughing as she took the girl's hand.* "Oh, I have so much to acquaint you with! How is yer Mam?"
((OH GOD I THINK THAT'S RIPPED FROM AN AUSTEN ADAPTATION MOVIE.))

*They all moved towards where Jamie had the buggy waiting. The kids piled in the back.*
"Mam's fine. She's been plannin a dinner all week with Missus Heekin."

*Kathy lumped herself in with the children, in a state of bliss as the twins climbed upon her knees to sit.*
"It'll be like manna to my soul to see her again," *she murmured.*

*She looked at him with startled joy.*
"No...ye never said...oh, Mikey!" *she would have hugged him but for the children she held, so she only smiled her brightest.*

*He smiled sheepishly, reddening a little.*
"I musta forgotten to mention anythin'..." *Just then, Jame sat across from him and started talking enthusiastically about this year's new foals.*

*Kathy grinned quietly to herself and told stories to the twins to keep them occupied as the carriage made its way back to the farm. At last they arrived and Kathy handed the twins down to Eileen, then swung out of the carriage herself, resisting the urge to take off her boots and dig her bare toes into the rich Irish soil.*

*Michael took her hand, leading her around the hill so she could see the house. It wasn't large, but it was very roomy and comforable, especially now that Jamie and Michael didn't live there anymore.*
*Unfortunately, she couldn't see the whitewashed building for the hordes of Heekins and MacNamaras who were assembled outside. Obviously, this was some sort of arranged reception. Considering the banner that read "Welcome Home Michael and Kathy."*
*Michael blinked at them for a moment before his mother came running from the crowd to give Kathy a massive bear hug. She kissed the younger woman's forehead and placed both hands on the sides of her face.*
"Kathy Kelly, CHRIST it's good to see you again!" *She hugged her tightly again.*
"Good to see you too, Mam." *Michael teased. She thwapped him upside the head.* "Quiet, you!"

*Kathy hugged her in return, blinking back tears.*
"I've come home, Missus MacNamara..."
"None of that, lassie--ye'll call me Mam or I'll be a herring's wife."
*Kathy laughed.*
"MaryMam?" *she said with a smile.*
"Ah now that's somethin' more like," *said the older woman with a smile.* "Now you come inside and tell me what in Heaven's name made ye daft enough to marry that cheeky boyo of mine!"
