Safe on the Stage

((*shamelessly rips off 'The Sound of Music'*))
*Thunder shook the opera house as Arielle came hurrying in, glancing around the dark, shadowy auditorium. Her normally loose brown hair was tied into two neat plaits down her back, and she clutched a blanket close to her body. She softly crossed over to the stage, where she sat down and wrapped herself in the blanket. She winced as another roll of thunder reached her ears- she was terrified of thunderstorms.* It just feels so much safer in here. I've no idea why, but...it does. *She jumped as the thunder startled her once again, then remembered a song her mother used to sing when she was frightened, and began to sing softly to herself.*
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into Springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad.

*Her beautiful voice echoed slightly in the otherwise-silent auditorium.*
