Whoa...
Alfred felt weird, but a good kind of weird.
It felt like freedom, the kind he often tried to find on the bottom of a bottle. Still, he knew he wasn't drunk, even if he didn't feel exactly sober either.
Sobriety meant being haunted by memories, flashbacks and illusions. It meant being frightened and sad.
Right now, he felt good. Free from his worries and all the pain he carried with him.
Very reluctantly the former vampire hunter began to open his eyes, afraid that the feeling would end.
It didn't.
The first thing he noticed was blonde hair... was Herbert... carrying him? No, wait... this wasn't Herbert...
Then who the Hell was carrying him?!

He laid the boy down in his body, which was already in bed.

As that happened Alfred could already feel the visions begin to grasp at the edges of his mind.
"No, don't! Please don't!" He begged, not sure what this... person... was doing, but desperately wanting him to stop and give back that feeling of freedom and perhaps even happiness.

He sighed.
"I don't make the rules, all right?"

((THANK YOU!))
"What rules? Please..." he begged, by now in a very recognizable state of utter confusion.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black device.
"I just got a page that says you're not supposed to die; ergo, I can't take you."

"What the... I'm a vampire! I've been dead for a long time!" Alfred protested, staring at the strange device in utter bewilderment.

"I know, right?" said Tod as he looked at his pager. "I mean, I'm the bringer of doom to mortals, and they don't even give me a cell phone?"

Alfred wasn't sure what a cell phone was, but he'd go with any chance to stay away from those horrid feelings.
"Then make a stand! Don't listen to them!"

"I've tried, but- wait a minute, you're trying to get me off-topic, aren't you?"

"No, I'm trying to get some long overdue peace... please... I'm begging you. I'll do anything, just don't make me suffer any longer."

"That takes all kinds of paperwork," Tod said dryly, "as well as the fact that I got a pretty severe reprimand the last time I did anybody a favor."

"The bringer of doom to mortals lets himself be deterred by paperwork and a slap on the wrist?" Alfred looked genuinely confused by that one.

"Ever notice that we have a Kaiser Rudolf now? That took some serious rewriting from the management upstairs."

"I'm sorry, I've been pretty much stuck in one unending night for the last decade or so... so no, I didn't notice that. Which is all the more reason not to drop me back into that night."
