"Alfred- Alfred, you're raving-"
He caught the other boy from behind, unused as he was to having to be the voice of sanity and reason.

Alfred responded with a hiss, taking a swig of whatever was in the bottle he'd just picked up before wincing at the pain it caused his wounded tongue.
With a snarl not unlike that of a wounded animal he flung the bottle in Herbert's general direction.
Now there would be nothing to keep the memories away, to keep him from pain! Herbert had made his... his medicine CAUSE him pain!

Herbert ducked, rolled his eyes, and decided that desperate times, etc...
In short, he took advantage of being both older as a vampire and a far sight larger and knocked Alfred to the ground, pinning him there by climbing on top. The whole pose ended up bearing a dark resemblance to that of their first long encounter in the bathroom back in the castle.
"Alfred!" he snapped.

Alfred didn't even struggle, he just let himself be pinned down. Blood was dribbling from the side of his mouth and there was little to find in his once hopeful eyes besides hate.
"This is all your fault," he growled. His voice was soft, but all the more venomous for it. "You and that damnable father of yours. I should've staked you when I had the chance."

"No blame for your little whore, of course," Herbert snarled back as a matter of instinct.

Alfred merely looked up at him, all that he'd just said reflected in his eyes.
He would have been happy had it not been for them! None of this was supposed to happen to him! He was a botany student for God's sake! But no... those damned creatures just had to have their little party!

Herbert climbed off and turned away from him, rubbing the back of his own neck under his hair and trying to think of something to say.
Something had gone horrifically wrong here.

"You destroyed my life... destroyed me... and now you try to blame the one person who brought any light into those final moments? Way to go," Alfred spat hatefully, not even bothering to get up.
After all, it wasn't as if he could choke on his own blood.

"What the fuck do you want me to do now!?" Herbert spat as he turned around. "I did nothing to you-"
But that wasn't true, and Herbert knew it.

"Lies now? Wow... and here I was thinking I couldn't think any less of you. Looks like you proved me wrong, huh?"
Alfred didn't actually know what it was that he wanted...
Well, outside oblivion.
He just really wanted all this... the pain, the suffering, the misery... he just wanted all that to be over.
Was that truly that much to ask?

There was a sound of light footsteps on the stairs.
"Azraffle?" Magda called. "I know it's an odd hour, but-"
As she poked around the corner and saw Herbert, her eyes narrowed.
"Oh, it's you. I vas looking for Azraffle."

Alfred turned his head slowly, but still his vision blurred for a few moments before focusing on...
Oh dear God...
He could feel a wave of nausea hit him when his alcohol addled brain identified the girl... the girl he couldn't save... the poor victim he'd just... well, abandoned!
It was a painful reminder that there was blood on him too... and not just in his mouth.

"Magda," said Herbert. "Magda, this is absolutely the worst possible time for you to have showed up-"

"Yes, yes, I know, I'm corrupting se place vit my inferior bloodlines and unforgiffable lack of dress sense. Save it," Magda retorted. "I only came to ask Azraffle if he had-"
She stopped short when she saw Alfred. She looked from Alfred, back to Herbert, and then stomped up to Herbert.
"There really isn't anysing beneath hyou, is there!?" she shrieked, shoving him in the chest.

Alfred only half managed to stifle a guilt-ridden sob, but Magda's reaction made him snap out of that and right back into his hate for Herbert.
There was that to be said for alcohol... at present, there wasn't room for too many emotions at once in Alfred's little body.
"No, there isn't."
