Krolock made an "ick" face.
"Good lord, the very thought of blood doing that..."

"Enough to put you off the stuff forever?" Yager teased.

He chuckled.
"Maybe not forever, but certainly for a while."

"Good... I've seen starving vampires. Not a good thing at all." The vampire hunter shuddered.

"They're...very unfortunate creatures, yes."
In fact, he'd once read that zombie hunters often mistook such beings for their intended prey.

"Especially the ones who think it's the noble thing to do..." The vampire hunter shook his head in a distinctly sad manner.
It's quite something to see a creature like that and having it refuse your efforts to help.

Krolock shook his head.
"One does not have to kill people to drink their blood, but they always seem to think that is the case, and thus martyr themselves for no reason."

"Terrible how bad imagery can even take away any knowledge people have of their own species." The vampire hunter sighed.
"You'd almost be tempted to start a school or something like that."

"They wouldn't go," he said wryly.
"Vampires are contrary creatures."

"Tell me about it." Yager snorted.
"Grow a pair of fangs, get some bloodlust... the idea that you're the all-knowing master of the universe comes free. At least, these days," the vampire hunter added. He didn't mean Krolock by that, after all. While not an all-knowing master of the universe, somewhere nearing half a millenium on this earth was plenty to make you strong and quite wise.
"I think it's this whole 'bite-and-abandon' thing that's been going on. Nobody teaches the new ones the old ways."

"Such is the nature of the beast, I'm afraid. The only way you could be effective in bringing them around is to let them do it on their. Vampires, if pushed, would push back and turn in the opposite direction."
He pursed his lips.
"Or, do the opposite, because they're ridiculous."
Krolock made a "eh, what're you gonna do?" gesture.

"I try to get them when they're young... before they get ideas of their own. Unfortunately, you rarely find one young enough. But hey, at least it's something." Yager half-smiled at the memory of some, but then frowned again.
"Not to mention those human idiots going about who actually want to be turned."

Krolock shook his head.
"They don't know what they ask. Oh, think they think they do, because they have read all they can get their hands on about vampires. But reading it and being it are very different things."
He spread his hands in an expansive gesture.
"And most are unfit to join this life! I mean no snobbery, but there are some that it would be a bad idea to give this existence to."

"I agree with you, dear count."
There were plenty of wannabe vampires and vampire hunters to go around... but none of them truly understood what it was they desired. Mostly because they longed for something completely different than the harsh reality.
"I still cannot understand where they get the illusion of this being some glamorous existence... or how they can blatantly ignore everything negative. I do not mean to bring you down, but seeing everything and everyone you know turn to dust... the constant adapting to new times. I admire you for being able to do such a thing."

He nodded, a bit solemn now.
"Ah, yes. That's the crux of it, isn't it? How does one who has no comparison know what it means to have all that you considered your world to exist only in museums and crumbling ruins? Not even the young vampires can understand, because they are still within a normal human lifespan. True understanding only comes with centuries."
He inclined his head toward Yager.
"Sometimes, I don't know how I do this."
