*Rochester was held captive by her words for a moment, lost in the thought of just...being with her. Then he clucked his tongue once decisively, drawing up her hands in his.*
"Then perhaps that's just what you should do." *He pursed his lips briefly.* "Perhaps not the killing part, but...if you'd like to fetch some things, we could certainly arrange that."

Shadi wrinkled her nose.
"I certainly don't want to live in his house a moment longer," she said, feeling her anger building. She might not have admitted it to herself, but she liked that feeling. Righteous and violent and justified, as she so often knew she was not. Nadir infuriated her, but the feeling was also invigorating. And preferable to despair.

*Rochester stood abruptly, leaning to keep her hands in his.*
"Then as soon as your new clothing arrives, I'll escort you back to fetch whatever you need."
*He paused, reining in his determination for a moment.*
"If that's all right with you, darling."

"Of course it is," she said softly. Now that he'd stood up, the disarray of her towel was obvious, loose about her chest and open a few inches where the ends had previously joined, and she covered herself slowly. Not quickly, of of modesty, and not showily, but just... out of respect. For what he'd decided.

*His eyes dropped instinctively to the perfect flesh, but as she moved to cover herself, the motion continued down as Rochester averted them out of respect. But he did want her. It was something that he just couldn't hide, not from someone that new him so intimately. He cleared his throat carefully.*
"Then perhaps I should call down to the front desk and check on that dress." *He managed with a gentle smile.*

"Thanks," she said, smiling softly, in the hopes that it would all turn out all right. They'd been through hard times before, hadn't they? Though never entirely through her own doing. It was strange, his thinking sex wasn't the solution, but she'd try to respect that, even if it made her worry, too, that he wouldn't want her anymore.
If Valmont had taught her anything, it was the marked difference between Rochester and... other people.

*He bent to kiss her forehead sweetly, pausing briefly before straightening and walking to the door. Rochester smiled softly back at her.*
"You promise to be here when I get back, right?" *He teased gently.*

She knew he was teasing, and perhaps that was good, but the thought that he couldn't trust her to be caught at her.
"Of course," she said. "Where would I go in a towel?"
Knowing her, that wasn't much of a guarantee, but she smiled at him reassuringly.

*Rochester managed a small laugh.*
"Indeed. I'll just be a moment."
*With that, he ducked into the other room, and then out into the hall.*

Shadi waited, wrapping the towel tighter around herself and drumming her feet against the side of the bed. It was awkward, true, and painful, but the relief at knowing Rochester was alive trumped all that. She felt herself smiling, because really, as long as he was alive... weren't things all right?

*It wasn't that long at all when Rochester returned, a characteristic smile dimpling his cheek. He knocked the door frame. Then he offered forward a fresh dress of blue silk.*
"So what do you think, darling?"

"That I probably shouldn't ask where you got it, or how much it was," Shadi quipped, rising.

"You give me far too much credit." *Rochester answered indignantly.*
"It's not as if I had it made for you. I'm afraid I was forced to work on a truncated schedule." *He grinned, closing the distance between them, holding the dress out to her.*

Shadi bounded over the last step, and took it.
"Thank you," she said sincerely, and she didn't just mean the dress. "You didn't have to." She looked down. "Then again, I fear I'd make a bit of a stir, going out like this."

"Undoubtedly." *Rochester agreed with a grin.*
"Though you might still cause a stir, even in that. Blue will flatter you quite nicely."
*He stood there only for a moment before starting back to the door.*
