Shadi raised an eyebrow, but did not point out that she'd lived on much less for the majority of her life. She didn't think Rochester would want to hear about rooting through dustbins, nor was she seeking pity. "Good," she said. "Thank you."
She just hoped Pina had somewhere to go. She sat back from the table, finally satisfied. "I'm ready," she announced. "Whenever you are."

*Rochester popped the last bit of sandwich in his mouth with a grin. Swallowing, he nodded to her and delicately wiped at the corners of his mouth before dropping his napkin to his plate. Pushing back his chair, he rose gracefully, one hand falling to the back of her chair and the other offered to her.*
"Give me a moment or two to make myself presentable and we can be off, darling."

Shadi couldn't figure out whether Rochester was eternally presentable, or never. Either way, she wouldn't complain. "I think you look fine," she said, the words innocent but her expression hinting that he looked more than that. But she stood, smoothing her dress (she still didn't feel used to it again) and wondering if there was anything to be done with her cropped hair.

*Rochester tsked at her softly, taking her chin up with his fingertips as his gaze found hers.*
"Sweet Shadi, surely you would not deprive me of my vanity. Say you'll indulge me. I promise I won't be long."
*His smile was tender and genuine. It took him back to an easier time, them together like this and he was not eager to overthink it.*

She smiled, easily and with some of her old archness. "I can wait," she said softly. "I'm certain it'll be worth it."

*Rochester's grin turned a touch mischievous.*
"Oh, darling. I do hope you wouldn't think I'd waste your precious time."
*His eyes lingered in hers for a moment before he bent to peck her cheek softly and ushered her back inside.*

"Never," she said. Though as she waited, she thought about how much of Rochester's own she'd wasted.

*Rochester didn't however, hurrying about and fussing over what sort of vest to match with his jacket. He felt more alive than he had in ages and it made it so much easier to fall into old habits. He primped and preened, going as fast as he could manage while maintaining some standard for presentation. Finally reemerging, he struck a pose of frivolous display, a dandy haughtiness mixing with rakish charm.*
"Well?" *He inquired expectantly.*

Shadi laughed. She wasn't sure when she'd laughed with such abandon last. Perhaps it was because Rochester was suddenly so totally himself. "You know very well how you look, and you know it's fabulous," she said, joining him. "Now you are quite appropriate for visiting the circus."

*So maybe it was a touch...over the top. But Rochester felt so good in his old skin, his lady on his arm.*
"I certainly do aim to please, my darling."
*He bent to nuzzle her neck briefly before glancing to the door.* "There's a sweet bistro deli just a stone's throw from here. Do you think your friend would like that sort of thing?" *He asked politely.*

Shadi nodded eagerly, taking his arm on instinct. It felt so natural, like this. She wanted it to say this way. She wanted to never have left.
"I'm sure she would," she said.
((Like I said, Renn says we can leave Pina be, for now, so we can skip whenever you like.))

“Then that sounds just the thing.” *Rochester confirmed with a confident grin. He led her out into the hall, taking care to lock up before they strolled down to the street. Making their way to the deli, it was a brief stop before they were off again with goodies in hand.*
((I’m not sure. With busy schedules, would you prefer to take a break?))
