"Oh, a compliment." Tsuzuki nodded, his idle gaze flicking down the street. "It doesn't give a good impression to slam doors in other people's faces." He smiled at Sylar to soften his words.
(( *has just watched Heroes* *is vaguely excited Sylar's picked up an impressionable youth* ))

((*is British* *does not want to know yet, even though she really kind of does*))
Sylar bit his lip sheepishly. "Again, sorry about that. I... get a little carried away sometimes."

"With your abilities, it's not surprising," Tsuzuki said. "I would be..." He hesitated, finding it incredibly easy to step into Sylar's shoes (or rather, what he thought were Noah's shoes). "Scared, of other people's reactions."
(( You heard nothing. >_> ))

((It wasn't that much of a spoiler. Just enough to tantalise. Now's a good time to stop, though.))
Scared. Like Zane Taylor, like Brain Davis. Like Tsuzuki. What a waste. Out loud, he said, "People don't always react well to the truth. My mother... well. I don't want to talk about her." He looked away, and, against every instinct, let some of his feelings from that particualr... incident... show on his face.

It was probably the best thing Sylar could have possibly said to gain Tsuzuki's trust and sympathy. If there was any suspicion left, it was wiped out at that. The purple-eyed Shinigami leaned forward over the table, face set in sympathetic lines. "You don't have to," he said, and there was so much concern and understanding in his eyes that it was almost laughable.
(( *zips lips, except- * When does it air? ))

((I actually don't know. Once again, it has not been advertised. At all. I'll have to check.))
Score. Sylar kept the victorious smirk internal, showing instead a grateful smile and an obvious casting-about for a new subject.

Tsuzuki brought one up, something occurring to him that he hadn't wondered about before. "What do you do for a living, in America?" he wanted to know.
(( Laaaame. The Heros thing, not the Arianne thing, because I do that all the time. >_> ))

((I know. Apparantly the next two are showing on the 15th. Four days away, and it hasn't been advertised. I'm really glad you brought it up, else I might have missed it.))
"I repaired time-pieces. I had a shop. I haven't done that for a while, though; not since Dr Suresh first breezed into my life. I guess I could go back to that, now, but... I don't know. I want to do something different. Let my life take a different path. Help Mohinder with his research, if he'd let me. Or not. Just... not what I've been doing.
What about you? What do you do back home?"

"Ohhh? Wow." Tsuzuki was intrigued. He had a watch, but it was of the blinking digital kind and not the sort that would have ever interested Sylar. But the thought of the exactitude involved in Sylar's old trade, the minute detail, impressed him, and he leaned back in his seat, eyebrows raised. "Maybe you can find something here in Paris, if you're planning on staying." He spread his hands helplessly, smiling- "Some detective stuff, very secret. But some office work too, paperwork, reports. It's really boring."
(( Oh, good. Let me know what you think; this season's shaping up to be much better than the last one, methinks. ))

((That's encouraging. Fingers crossed!))
Sylar shrugged. "I saw a clockmaker's shop on the way here. I might drop in there, see if he needs an assistant or something."
He smirked at Tsuzuki's blatent lies, but forbore to call him on them. Everybody knew that "really boring" was code for "I can't tell you". Actually, the whole "detective" thing made him sound like a Company agent, which couldn't be true, as he'd have heard of Sylar if that were the case.

"That's practical of you." Tsuzuki noticed Sylar's smirk, his own eyes narrowing defensively. "...What?"

"Nothing, nothing!" He insisted, laughing a little and holding out his hands palm-forward as if to ward Tsuzuki off. "Just... well, you can't throw around words like "detective" and "very secret" and then expect people to believe that it's boring. If you don't want to tell me, or can't tell me, I get that. Just admit that that's why."

"It is." Tsuzuki insisted. "Only sometimes detective. The rest of the time it's- it's paperwork and training and a whole bunch of really boring stuff. Really. I fall asleep a lot, or sneak away." He gave a little shrug, realizing a few words too late he probably shouldn't have said that last bit. Now he looked like he was lazy. "Eheh. Then I get yelled at."

Sylar found himself unable to hold back a grin. The image of Tsuzuki sneaking away from work like a kid at a grown-ups party was just too adorable.

Tsuzuki grinned back, pleased that Sylar was taking his side, or at least, seemed to believe him.
"And the Ki- the boss doesn't like me," he said mournfully. "I'll never be promoted."
