*She smiled and nodded.* "I'm going to be in high demand seeing as I'm having my Coming Out this Season, but I'm sure I can pencil you in." *She teased.*

*Smiling, he tucked the paper away in his pocket.*
"I imagine you'll have to fend off the suitors with a rather long stick. Or is the Comte going to do that for you?" *he said lightheartedly.*

"Papa and Nicki... he's coming home for Papa's birthday in September, and staying on leave for the Season, so between them I don't think I'll have any issue. Or any suitors, which is exactly how I want it, seeing as I'll be teaching anyway."

"Do they still not like independent women?" *he said with a smirk, obviously complimenting her.*

"Oh, my independence has no bearing on the fact that my dowry could buy a small country." *She said dryly.* "I'll have suitors no matter what Messieurs le Comte et le Vicomte do, seeing as Coming Out means being announced as marriageable... but having less of them will be a blessing."

"You actually want to get hitched to one of those society men?" *he asked incredulously.*

*She wrinkled her nose.* "And spend the rest of my life organizing parties and talking behind people's backs and bearing seven children, only to have them raised by nurses and realize when they get married that I didn't spend enough time with them? I would have thought it was obvious I didn't want to end up like every other debutante." *She said in disgust.* "Frankly, I'd rather end up a spinster in a garret than Duchess Something-Or-Other, defined by her husband and how many children she's popped out."
*She looked out the rain, not brooding, simply looking.* "You know what Rose and I used to do on rainy days? We had picnics in the attic."

"You could have wild affairs behind his back," *he joked.* "I'm sure he'll be doing the same."
*Chuck followed her gaze. The rain didn't seem like it was going to go away anytime soon. He took her by the wrist and pulled her up.*
"Well, let's go."

*She laughed and half-stood, half-was-pulled to her feet.* "A veritable modern-day Duchess of Devonshire. I think Coralie's made stew..."

"You're going to love that movie," *he said with a grin.*
"Tell her to bring it up to the attic, then."
*After helping her fully stand, he offered her his arm in a formal manner.*

*She took his arm and, after a rapid exchange in French with Coralie, they were on their way up the stairs. She grinned suddenly.* "Get ready for a lecture in Enjolras family history... practically everything the family's ever owned is kept up in that attic."

"As long as I don't have to take notes," *he quipped.*

**NEW DAY**
*Adrienne sat curled on an armchair, reading.*

*Chuck sauntered about the house (wearing a lavender shirt and a darker purple cravat) in hopes that he'd get a few more ideas. He walked past the sitting room, backed up then looked in. She was too absorbed in her reading to notice. Taking advantage of that, he leaned on the door frame and just watched her with a grin on his face.*
