"Part of the reason papa could never have stayed in England, although he puts it down to the weather. Which is atrocious, I'll give it that. Snow in May, that sort of thing."

Andrew wrinkled his nose. "It's rained every time I've been there. Then again, we go to Yorkshire. Evidently it's not so bad down by Manderley."

"There are lovely places and lovely days when it doesn't rain or fog - how else would one picnic? But it does rain and fog quite a lot." He paused. "Even then it can be pretty, depending on where you go. I overspent once on an umbrella. I hadn't brought enough for it and lunch. It was wonderfully worth it."

"I'm supposed to go to Manderley in a few weeks, before I go to school, to visit my grandmother. Mother says the countryside around Manderley is the loveliest in the world, but I think she says that because she grew up there."

"I think that the countryside around Brideshead is. I am as guilty as she."

"I never paid much attention to the area around Richmond," he admitted. "Nora's always been the one who spends time outside. I was always inside reading."

"Sometime you'll try reading outside and like it better. When a leaf falls onto the page you get reminded of the outside and the contents of the book at the same time. It's better that way."

He laughed a little, amused that Sebastian had decided that this was true rather than suggested it. "I'll take your word for it."

"Art. History." A pause. "Both together. Things?"

"I'm supposed to be reading history when I get there." He really had no idea what he wanted to do, so he had picked something it would be easy to switch out of.

"No one goes to college for the education, although no one leaves without it. So I suppose you're in a bind. But it's a bind that all of us partake in. It's a rite of passage."

"Agreed." With a smile he lifted his glass to Andrew to toast it.
