"No!" Erik said too sharply, edging back slightly. "Decidedly not." The less he knew, the better, despite the horrors his imagination would provide on its own. "Be careful, Mortimer."

"Yes, very careful."
He grinned and leaned up to kiss Erik's cheek again before turning to back out to Valentine, pulling his shirt on and buttoning it into place.
"I will come back...hm...five days to visit, see Julian. Bye!"
He waived, half turning, and then headed out.

After Mortimer left, Erik paced, indecisive. He felt sure he could tail Mortimer without the creature knowing--for the most part. But should he?
He wondered what he'd see. And knew he'd not be able to unsee it. And he... he was no better, was he? No fit guardian for Mortimer. Guardian. How could he have known Mortimer was interested in more? He'd never expressed as much.
If he had... would Erik have responded?
He came to rest beside the plans for the tank. It would be far nicer than Jamison's, though Erik did not fault the old man. Not everyone was Erik, after all. He resumed pacing, merely trying to keep himself from dashing after Mortimer. That was his nature, and he was lost enough right now that he thought perhaps he should combat it. He was afraid of what he might do to further weaken his bond with the little man. He was conscious enough of that possibility, anyway.
