Don't pretend.

Nicolas, I don't know what you want from me. If it will make you feel better by all means tell me; if you think it will hurt more than heal then refrain.

It doesn't hurt, Armand. It has nothing to do with her, I want to know what you want. Why is this so complicated? It shouldn't be this complicated.

I want to know.

For a while, I thought she was you. I don't think I did very seriously. But she wrote things sometimes, little things. I thought she was you, and didn't want to tell me. But she was, you know, she was delicate and frail in ways you aren't actually, only seem to be. They often are. And she was so wistful about it. She spoke, when I had finally been persuaded to buy a phone, in hardly a whisper. And she didn't think so much of herself. She put up pictures of herself that were almost glamorous but awkward - as though she knew that a certain angle would make her beautiful, and so deliberately hit something that only almost that angle.

How tragic. (I mean that.)

Yes, yes, I think so. It was that quality that brought you to mind in that deceptive way - you know, you aren't really, but I would sometimes imagine, while taking her in, that you were. My mind would invent memories of you being tragic in the candlelight or something. Don't take that poorly; you know how my mind is.

Mmhm. I'm only refraining on commenting on that because you asked me not to.

Don't you ever reinvent memories? I can't imagine what other mental disorder could plague immortals more. But then, it's the only one that really plagues me.

Not particularly, no. I relive memories occasionally, but I don't reinvent them.

Have you ever relived a memory I was in?

Probably.

Which one?

There were so many, Nicolas, it would have depended on the mood I was in.

Ah. Well, can you think of the last one?
((Speaking of moods, Nicolas is in a very good one right now. XD))
