*Lizzie did just that and after helping everyone to a full plate, her gaze turned (smugly amused) back to Jake.*
"Ya wanna say grace?" *After all, it should be a day to be thankful if ever there was one.*

*Jake, who already had a biscuit halfway to his lips, paused and glanced at his brothers, who likewise put down their forks and obligingly folded their hands. He cleared his throat.*
"Uh...fer whut we're 'bout t'receive, may th'Lord make us truly thankful...amen," *he said slowly, staring hard at Lark with a look in his eye that was far from pious.*

" 'men."
*Lizzie said in easy agreement. Her lips tightened as she turned to her meal, her mind suddenly drawn to thoughts of Alex and missing her something terrible. She quickly filled her mouth until the thought passed.*

"Amen." *Lark answered, looking much more the part of propriety than Jake. She kept her eyes focused on her lap and then her meal, not lifting them to Jake. She just had the sneaking suspicion that this would be easier if she didn't look at him. If she did, she start thinking things that had no place at the dinner table. Well...not with other folks around anyways.
It best be a quick dessert.*

*Jake was used to gobbling his food, thank God, so nothing was really amiss in the way he bolted his dinner, though he wound up beating even Kip to the finish line. Then again, Kip was never really finished eating. One meal tended to segue into the next, for Kip.*

((I <3 Kip. Well, the whole clan I suppose. But Kip and I have that in common.))
"Don't 'ya go an' choke and make her a widow too early." *Lizzie muttered in Jake's direction.*
*Lark did her best to not look like she was rushing. In all honesty, she was getting kinda nervous. Not bad nervous, just a tightening in her tunny at the thought of the thing that would come. It was different when it was just them and they were just doing what came natural, but here at the table she was forced to think on it in a detached manner and it got her worrying. Would it hurt? What if she wasn't any good? She picked more lightly at her meal, her eyes not leaving it but somehow seeming more distant.*

*Kip flicked a piece of bread at Jake, catching him off the nose. Jake glared at him. Kip grinned, avoided getting kicked under the table and flicked another piece at Lark.*

*Lark looked up, confused by the break in her focus. She instinctively looked to Jake, but that wasn't right. Her gaze shifted to the piece of bread and then to Kip. Of course it was Kip. She pursed her lips for a moment as if she might be cross. But then a wicked smile curled her lips and she flicked it right back at him, hitting him in the chin. He really should know better than to challenge a sharp shooter like that. She did what she could to suppress her giggling. It was a nice distraction.*

*Kip's only response was to scoop a bit of mashed potato onto the end of his fork and set to fling it at Lark. Jake bristled.*
"Oh hell n--"
Twang.
Splat.
*Jake slapped his forehead.*
Ladies and gentlemen: the Quinn family.

*Lark looked perfectly against, frozen with her mouth agape and potato stuck to her cheek. Then she scooped it away, her eyes narrowing and body tensing for a good showing if that's what Kip was looking for. She was 8 years old again, no worries, no responsibilities. She surveyed her plate for weapons.*
*Lizzie was not so amused. She gasped and glared sharply at her brother.*
"Hell Kip!" *She snapped.* "What the devil 'ya think yer doin'?"
*Just then, potatoes were launched in counter fire.*

*Giving up any pretense of adulthood, Jake was determined to make Kip pay for what he'd done.
A brussel sprout bounced off of Kip's head.*

" 'oddammit." *Lizzie grumbled, not appreciating the food that she'd slaved so hard on being reduced to friendly fire. Her eyes turned hard on Jake, as if looking for some sort of back up from the eldest of the clan but upon seeing him looking so easy, she sighed heavily. So much for that plan.*
*Lark was already reloading, before volleying a spoonful of peas at Kip with a mischievous grin.*

*An entire slice of bread landed on Lizzie's head. Butter side down.*

So that's how it's gonna be.
*Lizzie was frozen for only a moment before grabbing the gravy dish and sending a ladle-full of white gravy in the opposite direction. This was war!*

*Jake grimaced as he caught the gravy in the face.*
"It was an ACCIDENT!" *he roared, even as he hefted a slice of pie in one hand. Then he looked at it. It WAS pie. He took a gigantic bite before he flung it back at Liz.*
