Continued from: A+New+Face+Along+With+a+Familiar+OneIsa pushed open the rehearsal room and allowed Hazel to go in after her. It was a large room with mirrors on every side, normally it was used for ballet, but the rats were off on some field trip.

Hazel stepped into the rehearsal room and looked around. A large room, and mirrors on every side. As the orphan she was, she used how long it took to wash those mirrors every day. She admired the people that cleaned this place.
"Wow, someone has a vanity problem!"

"It's so that all the girls can watch each other as they dance so they're in sync" she walked over to a piano in the corner and sat down "I chose this room because other than the regular room's it's actually got the best acoustics." She played a couple notes on the piano "Do you know your scales and arpeggios?"

Hazel looked over at the mirrors. What Isa said, made sense. It would be best to dance in tact with the other dancers.
"Yes, it's a big room. My voice sounds funny in here."
She looked over at Isa.
"I know my what???"

Isa chuckled "Your scales and your arpeggios" she played some keys on the keyboard and demonstrated what she was talking about "now you."

Hazel's eyes followed Isa's hands as she played some keys on the keyboard. She tried to repeat the pattern, but she missed one key and played the wrong one. She had to try a couple more times before she managed to play the keys. Then she looked over at Isa.

"Okay now listen carefully" Isa played the keys again and this time sang along with them. When she finished she turned to Hazel "Now this time, so we can simply focus on your voice, I'll play the keys and you sing what I just okay?"

Hazel watched and listened, filing away every piece of information she got for later use. She felt grateful to have a skilled singer as Isa as her teacher. And Isa was kind too. Definitely used to children. If Hazel ever had a mother, she hoped she would be like Isa.
"Okay."

Isa began to play slowly and nodded to Hazel with a smile motivating the girl to sing what Isa had sung.

Hazel smiled back to Isa. She sang what Isa had sung, and her voice echoed through the room, clear and beautiful.

Isa smiled "Those are what you should do to warm up every time you're about to practice, it warms up your voice and allows you to sing at the level you believe you can sing that day, let's do it again only sit up straighter and place your hands on your chest so you can feel your breathing."
She began to play again.

Hazel straightened her back, placed her hands on her chest and felt her breathing, as she started singing again. She memorized each note, each way of breathing, so she would remember later.

For almost a half hour they did this, Isa pointing out the littelest flaws in the nicest ways until she decided it was time she had Hazel stand up.
"I know it's quite boring, but if you don't know how to warm up properly you'll strain your voice" she handed Hazel a drink of water "remember to drink a lot when practicing." Isa started playing a different tune on the piano and smiled "I want you to do something a little silly, but trust me it works, I want you to look in the mirror and make faces, stretching out your mouth and tongue a lot."

Hazel drank the water she was offered, remembering Isa's advice. She didn't think this was boring at all. It was fun to spend a day singing, instead of scrubbing floors, wash windows and cook dinner, like she had done at the orphanage.
Hazel nodded at Isa's word and smiled when she heard she was supposed to look in the mirror and make faces. She wondered how she could make faces and sing at the same time without bursting out laughing. She tried to stretch her face as much as she could, and made a lot of funny grimaces. That went really well, until she started singing.
The combination of her singing voice and a really fun grimace where she stuck out her tongue, made her laugh out loud.
"Do all opera singers make faces like this when they sing?"

Isa couldn't help but giggle "Well some of them do, but you're not suppose to sing when your doing it. It's best to just make funny faces, even before you do your scales, it helps to loosen up your jaw and tongue."
