*It was a sunny day, and Adrienne sat on a bench in the courtyard, after classes, correcting some first-year papers on the levitation charm. She of course had a bonnet on, otherwise she would have freckled dreadfully, but the weather was nice. Warm, but not hot. Mild.*
*She hummed to herself, something from an opera she'd seen recently, probably off-key but not unpleasant.*

Max wandered the school yard and sighed, hadn't he left home to get away from these type of places, now here he was in 1800's Paris living in one.
"If you could call this living" he mumbled and stopped to look at a flower.

"No luck?" *She called, not looking up from her papers.*

"Hmm, oh" laughing he shook his head "couple leads, nothing yet, thanks."

"I've looked for anyone from your time period; people tend to cope better if they've got someone else from the same place... there's a Vietnam vet somewhere in I think the third or fourth arrondissement, but that's only through hearsay. You're the first we've actually contacted from your zone." *She said, looking up.*

"Oh yea, I met him, guys name's Chris, nice dude, said he might have something, but who knows. And what do you mean my zone?"

"Time zone. Time period; the general group of years from which you came. Your zone is one of at least twenty we've had contact from at the school."

"Reaally?" He smiled sitting down across from her "Anyone by the name of Jude, or Lucy?"

"Oh, no..." *She turned faintly pink.* "I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. I mean from among twenty zones we've had direct contact from, yours is one. I'm pretty sure I've heard one of those names, though..."
*She thought for a moment, biting her bottom lip as she did so.* "I think... Auntie 'Ponine mentioned... Hallie and.... Clara! That's it; he's one of Clara's friends and his name is Jude and he's from nineteen-sixty-something and he sings a lot of Beatles. I think. I've never actually met Clara or Jude, you see, just heard tell of them from my father's friend Eponine."
*The fact hat he'd met Eponine in a failed fictional revolution from which they'd time-traveled and she knew Hallie through her roomate, who had traveled from the third millennium, was irrelevant. Time-travelers didn't faze her any longer.*

Max almost brightened up "If Jude's here, Lucy's here, somewhere. Time travel or not she'd follow that kid to the ends of the earth" he grinned and rubbed his hands together "I know this might sound a little odd, but do you know where I can find this Clara girl. If this is my Jude and I know it's my Jude than I have to find him."
He looked passed her for a moment "It's kind of hard being alone all the time."

"I suppose you'd be able to find her at the pie shop. Hallie runs it, and Clara's there a lot."
*She thought for a moment.*
"And I know how lonely that can be. I mean, my father is batty, my twin brother hardly talks to me, and my colleagues are all at least a decade older than I am. I didn't come in from a different dimension... but I know how that feels."

He laughed and stuffed a cigarette in his mouth "Not fun huh?" Lighting it, he realized it was his last one "Pie shop huh? Oh do you know the closest place I can get a pack or a box of these?"

"Being related to revolutionaries can be extremely trying." *She remarked absently, examining the empty cigarette box.* "Oh those are quite common. Probably not the brands you're used to, but you could pick them up at any corner tabac."
*If he really wanted a specific brand, she supposed she'd have to call in Alexei (who was really very useful, though he was under Higher Instruction not to take anyone back to when they'd come from, or bring anyone here) to go and get them.*

"Thanks" he tipped his gray cap and took a drag "revolutionaries huh? I imagine in this day, that would mean more than just standing around with megaphones and picket signs huh? Real revolutionaries, balls to the wall type guys."

*She nodded.* "The kind that build barricades and get shot and wave around big red flags for the sake of a new world. Well, Papa, anyway. Nicki fought in Papa's revolution, but only out of loyalty. Now he's in the navy, somewhere in a tropical jungle, but if he were here Lord knows he'd be befriending bluestockings and bohemians and gallivanting about the city with that artist friend of his." *She said this with a fond sort of condescension that made it clear she missed him... though she felt guilty, being the one who had orchestrated his entrance into the navy in the first place, to get him away from said artist friend.*
