Upon reaching a large forest, Kiba stopped near a lake. He was moderately tired, but not even close to hungry after eating roughly half a deer. Humans needed to eat every day, though, and it was starting to get dark so the white wolf assumed Helen was getting hungry.
The forest itself was quite normal--he could smell the usual squirrels, mice, and other small animals that lived here--but there was a feeling in the air that made Kiba think twice about heading further in too soon.
"I don't like this place," he stated, crouching slightly to let Helen get off. "There's something strange about it."

Helen went off Kiba's back and looked around her. She didn't sense anything special, but she was only a human girl, with no extraordinary senses.
"I don't notice anything," she replied. "Except that it is unusual quiet to be a forest. What do you feel about this place, Kiba?"

"It's not normal here," he replied. Hardly anything was normal in this world, but there was a difference between something strange and something outright malicious. "The forest is fine, but there's something living here that we need to avoid."
Lots of them.
"Don't go off alone," he said. "Not even you, Tsume."

Helen had grown up with a lot of female servants taking care of her, and some of them were excellent story tellers. She had heard about legends and myths from all around the world. She shuddered and snuggled closer to Kiba.
"I promise I won't." She said. "My servants told me legends from distant countries. About a mysterious people. They looked like humans, but were far more beautiful. And also treacherous. They loved to lure humans to fall in love with them, the legends said. But anyone who did that, would die. But they could also be kind and helpful, if they liked you."

In spite of himself, Tsume decided that listening to Helen was better than focusing on that distant, lurking scent that was putting Kiba on edge.
"So what were they called?"

Helen smiled, remembering the dear old faces from her childhood. She could still hear their voices telling her the old, half forgotten legends.
"They were called elves. There was two kinds of elves, if I remember correctly.
Dark elves, that lived in the night and darkness. They hated the humans and sought to harm them when they could. They could ensnare a human to see what they wanted them to see, transform themselves into human-looking creatures and make the human fall in love with them. And then lure the human to follow them into the mountain to live with them. Once the human was inside their world, the human would be lost forever, and never be capable of returning to the human world again. There were some who tried, but they soon became mad, or they faded away and died.
The Light elves lived in the daylight and could even visit churches. They were friendly, with light moods, and many of them were skilled healers and magicians, just like the Dark Elves. But the Light Elves used their magic to heal and to do good. They could hinder starvation, and took care of people that got lost. They were famous for their beauty, and known to be loyal to those they loved. Still, if anyone tried to harm their friends or family, they could do a lot of harm, to protect their loved ones."

"Okay, so we stay away from the elves who don't like humans," Tsume decided. "They might be the ones with that weird scent, anyway."
A sliver of the moon appeared as Helen told her story, giving the wolves some consolation; part of the moon was better than no moon at all.
The gray wolf dropped his illusion and walked just to the edge of the trees, still within sight of his companions. A few sniffs confirmed that whatever belonged to the unfamiliar scent wasn't coming any closer.
We're fine for now, he told the other two as he came back.

Helen looked over at the wolves, a bit startled. Not because she was alone with two wolves she didn't know very well, they had never done anything to harm her, but because the thought of being in the territory of elves that might hate humans frightened her. She relaxed when Tsume assured they were fine for now.
"Are there any elves here?" she asked anxiously and moved a bit closer to Kiba. "I thought it was only a story."

"I wouldn't know--Tsume and I don't know what elves smell like," Kiba answered. "For all we know, they're as real as we are and they're watching us right now."
The wolf dropped his illusion as well, gazing into the darkness as if daring anyone out there to come closer.

((They have NPC orcs and trolls in the forests of Lorien. That is one of the main reasons why my light elves always sends out someone to meet new people. I was unsure if you wanted me to bring in elves or orcs now so I wanted to ask you first))
Helen heard a swishing sound in the air. The next moment an arrow hit the tree trunk only inches from her head. She jumped, and went closer to Kiba, wrapping her arms around his neck.
In the deep of the forest there were two male orcs carrying bows and arrows. They had caught sight of Helen, and they eyed her greedy with smiles that made her shudder in fear.

After the shock of the first arrow and Helen's startled grab at his neck, Kiba stood up, growling.
"Tsume! Go!" he shouted, slipping out of her grasp to charge at them.
As he clamped his fangs down on the nearest one's throat, his eyes widened in revulsion. While he spat out the chunk of flesh, just barely able to keep from retching, one of the orcs raised his sword behind him.

Helen gasped when she noticed the orc raising his sword behind Kiba. Even if she was afraid of the orcs, her fear of losing Kiba was even stronger. She ran over to the orc and kicked him as hard as she could in the butt. He roared in anger and decided to attack Helen instead of Kiba. Enfuriated he turned against her and lifted his sword to attack the unarmed woman.

Tsume saw Helen's predicament quite clearly, breaking into a run the minute he saw the other orc raise his sword. He leaped at it, sinking his fangs into its wrist--and now he knew why Kiba was about to throw up.
SHIT, this tastes bad! He shook his head violently, as much to rip the orc's hand off as to distract himself from the horrendous taste. He felt tendons tear under his teeth, and after a few moments the gray wolf was rewarded with a roughly-severed hand in his mouth, still clutching the sword.
He dropped it all too quickly as the orc bellowed in pain.
"You think you've got it bad? I had to rip your hand off with my TEETH!" He stated, growling. "Now hurry up and leave before Kiba snaps out of it!"

Helen felt relief when Tsume saved her from the attacking orc. From the wolves reactions she understood that orc blood tasted bad. She quickly decided to stick to regular bread and cheese.
"Thank you both. It tastes just as bad as it looks?"
She wrinkled her cute little nose in disgust when she noticed the black orc blood everywhere.

True to his word Kiba regained control of his stomach, snarling as he wagged an upright tail. The orc hesitated before turning and trying to run, which was enough for Kiba to charge once more, knocking him over and crushing his neck bones.
The white wolf went back to Helen after making sure the twitches were death throes, even more nauseated at the smell of newly-dead orc. "Are you okay, Helen?"
