*Brandi hadn't seen much of the wolf-man-being-whatever-he-was since the day before, but the new day brought with it a curiosity that would not be ignored. If nothing else, she wanted something to call him that was shorter than 'wolf-man-being-whatever-he-was'. She wandered the house and grounds as seemingly purposeful as she could manage.*

Kiba was eating the remnants of a mid-sized rabbit behind the designated hill; it was enough for the day, but he'd check for any larger prey later.
The sounds of a human caught his attention, and he gave the air a cautious sniff before realizing it was the alpha female. She didn't seem in much hurry, but he walked out to meet her anyway, chewing what remained of the rabbit.
Is anything happening?

*Brandi bowed her head as they approached each other.*
"Nothing important. I merely wished to become acquainted better in private." *She glanced back the way he'd come, alluding to his prey.*
"Though if you are busy, it doesn't need to be now."

That's all right, I'm done eating, he informed her. What do you want?

*Brandi nodded slightly.*
"It's just...I don't know anything about you and what you are. I don't even know how to address you."
*Her eyes were gentle and inquisitive.*

My name is Kiba, he told her. I'm a wolf. My human form is only an illusion.

*Ok, that was a start.*
"Forgive me. It's just that where I come from, wolves don't have that ability. It's fascinating."
*She pursed her lips briefly, but kept his gaze.*
"Is there anything that I can help you with?" *She still wasn't sure what was expected from the dynamic.*
"Any questions of me?"

It's a trick for survival, Kiba explained, slight distaste creeping into his voice--he'd gotten used to it, but he could never manage to enjoy looking like a human. Humans tried to drive wolves out of existence where I lived, and the only way to keep from getting shot on sight was to look like a human.
He assumed his human form for the next two questions. "You don't have to help me; you're the leader, and I don't need anything right now. But that male you spend time with--he's the alpha too, right?"
Kiba just wanted to make sure that was the case. Humans had a strange view of leadership--they seemed to think only one person could be in charge, even between mates. That person tended to be male because there was almost always a gap in physical strength, which was nonexistent in wolves. However, the huge upsurge of adrenaline he'd smelled in Brandi led him to conclude that Brandi was probably the sole leader here.
If he was right, there was no way in hell he'd tolerate being less than equal.

*Brandi's brow furrowed for a moment, but she answered confidently.*
"He is my mate, yes." One of them. *She swallowed, clarifying.*
"Yes, the alpha male here. Though he may not be around for a while. Things are...complicated." *Her neck strained at the word.*

Well, now he was subordinate to two humans.
"All right, then." His only consolation was that he knew who to leave alone for a while; whatever the complications were between the alphas were, there wouldn't be too much hassle in the rest of the pack.

*What else was there to say? He seemed self-sufficient and he could always come to her if he had any other questions or concerns.*
"Thank you." *Brandi answered respectfully.* "It really is good to have you. Please let me know if anything else comes up. Otherwise, I'll leave you be."

"I'll tell you if someone unusual comes," he said. Average humans would not look or sound intimidating, so he would have to leave them for Brandi to take care of anyway.
He'd keep an eye out for anyone matching Helen's description--hopefully, swords weren't too common here.

*Brandi nodded.* "Thank you. And good day."
*With that, she turned back to the inn, feeling a bit better.*

*******NEW DAY*****************
*Helen, a bit anxious to leave the inn on her own after the last encounter with Menelaus, was looking for Kiba and Tsume. She was afraid that Menelaus might come and search for her here while the wolves were trying to hunt him down elsewhere. What if Menelaus tried to harm someone that had nothing to do with this? Like Brandi or her family?
Helen had made a calm decision during the night. In spite of the danger, she would come with Kiba and Tsume when they started tracking down Menelaus. If Menelaus in the meanwhile came to the inn looking for Helen, Brandi could say, without lying, that Helen was not there, and hopefully Menelaus would leave the inn without harming anyone or destroying anything.
This was her plan when she got out of bed this morning. She went downstairs, hoping Kiba would not deny her request to come with him.

Kiba was in a particularly aggressive mood today, since the wolves had managed to take down a large buck last night. By now they were finished eating, with Tsume giving him his space upon picking up on his alpha's mood.
"Are you sure you're not just venting your emotions?" asked the gray wolf. "You've always treated humans like punching bags, and I get it because they killed your first pack, but you've never actually hunted them out before. What's so bad with waiting for him to come to us? We don't even have to kill him--just cripple him or something."
"The sooner I kill him, the sooner I guarantee everyone's safety," he answered as he bit through the remnants of the buck's skeleton. "I didn't kill Darcia when he was still human--look what good that did for us."
As they heard Helen approach, though, he stood up.
"What's wrong?"
