Helen's bright blue eyes sparkled, and a slow smile brightened up her beautiful face. She couldn't help but admire the courage of this wolf. He was no doubt the leader of his pack. Helen had always admired strength.
"You are very brave. I don't think my husband will harm you. Wolves are sacred for him as well. I don't know which soldiers he will send after me, so I can't tell you what they will do."

*It seemed to Brandi that they were getting along well enough and Helen had her key. There were eight babies up in the nursery so the odds were good that one of them was hungry or needed to be changed. At least the nursery was padded to musffle any crying. She interjected as politely as she could.*
"If you have no more need of me at the time being, I'll leave you two to work things out."
*She bowed her head to Kiba.*
"I should like to catch up with you later, when you're free."

Kiba could hear faint sounds of human children from above, around the same time the alpha spoke up to say she was leaving. He didn't give any thought to it; while children did make it hard to control his prey instincts, with all their screaming and running around as they played, he didn't bother much with them.
His human form gave a nod as the alpha left, leaving him with Helen. She was grateful, he could tell by her body language, and he was unreasonably glad upon hearing Menelaus would be reluctant to fight a wolf due to his beliefs. Really, that only made the man easier to kill.

Helen smiled and nodded friendly to Brandi as she left the room. Then she looked at the wolf again, still smiling.
"However, I would never ask you such a big favor without offering anything in return. What would you like as a reward for your courage?"

What was with humans and their need to give unrelated things as payment? Did they not understand how important any semblance of a pack was? He'd only suggested the "where do I eat" thing because most humans didn't like seeing dead animals.
Since Helen was specifically asking for protection from her former mate, she'd understand if he had to kill Menelaus as a last resort. He could hardly ask for something that obvious, and he'd already mentioned that not being alone was enough.
What else could he possibly care about?
If the fighting gets too dangerous... you might have to keep going without me.

Helen looked over at the large, white wolf. The thought of putting him in danger caused her pain, and her bright blue eyes brimmed with tears for a moment. She was wondering why she already felt so attached to this wolf. She had no explanations - except that she had felt safe in his presence since the first time she met him.
She understood that the wolf maybe had to kill Menelaus. She also understood that he hated to be alone. She could understand that. She didn't like to be alone either. When he mentioned she might have to keep going without him, she looked at him again.
"I understand. It is a great risk to take. But I hope it will not come so far that I will have to go on without you. I will feel alone when you are not there to protect me."

He felt a bit awkward after realizing how upset she'd gotten; there was a brief scent of the saltwater that always cropped up whenever humans were sad.
"I'd catch up soon," he added.

Helen relaxed when Kiba promised he would catch up with her. She hoped the soldiers her husband would hire to find her didn't kill the wolf.
"Thank you, Kiba. I appreciate the protection you give me. I feel so much safer when you are around. I know you won't have problems catching up with me."
She lowered her eyes, blushing. She found his human shape too very sympathetic...

"Of course I won't," Kiba answered with a smile--it wasn't very big, and he wasn't showing his teeth for obvious reasons, but it was the most positive expression he'd shown so far.

*Helen smiled gently.*
"I think I overheard something about puppies? Are there puppies here?"
*She didn't mean to pry. She just happened to love animals. She always had a tasty treat for them in her pockets.*

"The pups are..." Kiba paused to listen for them. The sounds were muffled by the walls between them, but while they were in Kris' room, they weren't moving around very much. "They're sleeping, sorry."
((I actually have no idea where the puppies are since my other thread hasn't wrapped up yet, so I'm assuming they're asleep.))

((That's okay. I'm hoping Helen will run into the puppies later. She loves animals. )) Helen smiled. She couldn't hear any sounds of puppies either. She used to have dogs in her castle in Troy. She loved them, and they loved her. She missed them now. "Well, I hope to meet them later. It would be so nice to have a look at them. I love animals."

"You should be getting some sleep, too," he reminded her. "I'll be outside if you need me."
He was seriously getting hungry, and nighttime was when rabbits were most visibly active and away from their burrows--if nothing else, he was going to sleep in the moonlight to keep his energy up.

*Helen smiled. Kiba was right. She was feeling kind of sleepy now. And she knew that wolves always went hunting at nights. She stood up and made sure she still had her room key.*
"You are right, I should get some sleep. I'll come out if I need you. Thank you for helping me, Kiba."
*She smiled warmly to him, before slipping up the stairs, looking for her room.*
