"I know, I know."
*She stopped, looking at him*
"Although I'm not quite as defenseless anymore, no matter how vile the cause of that is."

Holmes blanched, wanting to look away.
"I know," he said hoarsely. "But when I dream, I dream that I have the chance to save you. And fail again."

*She wanted to tell him that she didn't blame him, that what happened wasn't his fault, that she still loved him as she'd done before. But- and she hated herself for this- she sometimes wondered if that was true. It had been his hands that struck her, his body that had broken her...*
"Are you sure...that this is a good idea? Not the opera, but us- it's hurting you, I can see it whenever you look at me."

Holmes' mouth set in a grim line. Well, grimmer.
"It is worse when I do not know whether you are safe," he said. "If it pains you, Irene, I can understand and respect that. But I cannot recuse myself of my dept to you; let me measure the cost to myself, and let you worry only about your own. I can handle whatever I set myself to. But I cannot set myself to reconciling with your death."

"My death?"
*Well, she supposed that letting herself turn completely would be death in the technical sense...*
"Or my being unleashed as a monster?"
*She stopped herself*
"I'm sorry, that was wrong of me."

"No, its fair," Holmes said. "For me, it would amount to the same thing."

Pavi had stopped laughing by now, and he was ignoring the attentions of the two trollops. Instead, he was paying attention only to the way Irene's dress shifted around her hips.

Holmes paused, uncertain as to whether she was dismissing him or not.
"Home?" he asked. "Should I... give you some time?"

"Pa-viiiii," one of the girls- he vaguely thought her name was Phryneé or something similar, and the other was Timandrée- whined, clutching at his arm, "can't we go somewhere fun?" "You know," the other one purred, "fun."
He shushed them, and they pouted.

((I'm going to assume there will eventually also be rehearsals for other acts, since otherwise there was no point in Irene coming here in the first place.))
"I need to look over the score."
Something to think about besides...this.
"I'll be alright."
((And for once, due to certain vampire powers, she's probably right.))

((Honestly, Mira, if I'd read through Faust I would have noticed that, but I didn't, and we needed to move. I'm sorry.))
"Of course," Holmes murmured. "I'll be here, when you need me."

**DAY TWO**
((I figure we can play this by ear--I mean, we don't need to type out the whole libretto, if we want to do just one or two acts that's fine but I'm also cool if we just want to say it's all of it. All I was trying to do by spreading it out is to build relationships/tension between all involved, so having more than one rehearsal seemed helpful.))
Erik settled into Box Five once more, content that he'd see Carlos needled on various sides and his two current proteges and one lover excel.
He'd noted that interfering detective at the last rehearsal, hanging back and watching intently, and he was back again. Curious.
