*Julian wandered to the back of the group and just as suddenly as he had appeared, he vanished once more, leaving no trace.*

Carlos turned, eyebrow raised in his best condescending stare. Where this man got off smiling like that, he would never know. It wasn't as if they were even in competition--not for the role, anyway.
"I do not perform for fun," he specified. Was Addams really going to make a point of his exotic foreign ruse? He supposed it was some absurd Spanish pride; didn't like Castro sullying his fatherland, or some such nonsense. It wasn't as if it was personal. "As to enjoyment, it certainly won't have anything to do with you, although you had best hope I have no cause to complain."

"Oh, you don't enjoy yourself?" asked Maleo, lifting a hand in an obscene obscure gesture. As for the teasing, it was merely that. If the big fake had even been Spanish, Maleo would still have called him out on his pomposity (not that he wasn't now).
"That's too bad... Well, I will make sure I give you nothing to complain about, as we cannot have il primo ouno in a sour mood... Indeed, I will make sure my presence is enjoyable... one way, or another," he said mysteriously, still smiling too-serenely. He circled halfway around the tenor, stepping gracefully in close range but not enough to invade his personal bubble.
Take the bait, little mouse, if you like... he thought, his hands once again behind his back.

((I love Maleo calling him a mouse.))
"My enjoyment, like my gato, has nothing to do with you, good Senor," he said with admirable calm, his full lips turning up just at the edges. "Please do not trouble yourself on my account."
He was well used to being propositioned, and sometimes in fairly obscure ways, but he had not, to date, received quite such mixed messages from any individual.

((If he knew about the Lynx thing, he'd totally call him "kitten."))
"If you so wish," he said with mock sincerity, giving Carlos another looking-over. The smile stayed where it was until he spoke again. "Just making sure your role is not given away to someone who can enjoy the spotlight..." he said, this time, his mouth drawing down into a frown as Xavier came into view.
He had nothing against the young man, but it would spoil his fun if Castro was put on an enforced vacation for health reasons. He trusted that Xavier would do well in the lead - he seemed to do smashingly well as Valentin. But the young man already had promise, so he would not play with him like he did Carlos; he did not see as much fun coming out of Xavier anyway.

Carlos smiled grew, without showing his teeth.
"Indeed. For where would the fun be for you in that?" he asked, not entirely grasping Maleo's game but willing, for the moment, to play it. "Leave the spotlight to me. We understand each other, it and I."

"I'm sure the two of you have a very intimate understanding of one another..." he said with a nod, his own smile broadening when the tenor seemed to smile back - acting or no, it just made things interesting.
"But forgive me if I've kept you from your mistress..." he trailed, meaning whoever Carlos might bed; he had no idea if the tenor had managed to fool someone into enduring his presence long enough. "...if one should be so... fortunate?"

Carlos had been without such comforts for long enough that the barb hit true. The man was mocking him, though not, he knew, in the manner he intended.
"Many have been," he said casually, hiding his chagrin as well he could. "But I live only for my art."

"Such a shame, then, that you do not extend your hand anywhere else," he intoned quietly, circling the man once more before starting to head off. He would need to rest, and wait for Marlow.
"I will leave you to your art, then," he said over his shoulder, a hint of a smirk still on his face.

"I hate to imagine what I leave you to," Carlos said mildly. "It must be difficult, not even having that."
He turned to go, and noted the ginger one staring with what he assumed was an attempt at subtlety at him.
"Did you have something to add?" he mocked. "I thought not."

That last bit stuck in his side; Carlos accusing him of not having his own art? Well, then he would have to prove it to the phony during the actual performances. Not wanting to give Castro the satisfaction of seeing him irritated, Maleo just kept on walking back to his dorm.
Composition awaited him, and he needed to take out his frustrations on unsuspecting paper. And maybe Marlow if his Uram would allow it.

Oh dear.
*Watching silently until her part came, Christine hoped the man playing Faust wouldn't be quite as snappish with her- mostly so that Erik wouldn't drop something on him.*

Erik had watched, carefully, for any hint of disrespect paid his Christine. Castro amused him, for now, and it suited him to let him stay. Though part of him very much wished the man would make a misstep.
Instead, Carlos treated the soprano with utmost respect; her part, in this act, was small after all, and he was distracted with other things.

Carlos had swept out after the exchange with Maleo, but Alex stuck around a bit, social animal that she was. She grinned at everyone present, for as a rule she liked everyone until given reason not to. And she was honored to be part of this cast.
