Ned sprinted by the pie shop without so much as a single glance in its direction but instantly did a double-take and wheeled back. He slowed to an astonished halt outside the restaurant.
Imagine that. The Pie Hole here, of all places. And intact.
He hastily fished in his pants pocket for the shop key and unlocked the door. Ned entered on tiptoes, frightened to shatter the illusion, and slid into the nearest booth.
The minutes ticked by. Finally assured that the Pie Hole was, in fact, not merely a figment of his occasionally overactive imagination, he slumped down in the booth seat with a sigh. The Pie Hole was just what he needed after the incident back at Darla's mansion. He reveled in its never-changing and never-ending warmth, comfort, and stability.

Darla, meanwhile, had escaped the cellar, absolutely furious and completely filthy. That dress was ruined! After a good long shower, and an icepack for her head, she got on the phone and ever so politely asked for her driver to bring the limo down for her. She would find him. Oh, yes, she would.
Now what did he say about himself? He was a piemaker. Not that it mattered much, since there any pie shops around here that she knew of. So, she figured the airport. The route to it, though, would take her past a certain shop...

During this time, Ned had gotten around to setting out the ingredients for one of his favorite creations: strawberry pie. Various sacks of flour and sugar crowded one side of the table in the kitchen, as did an entire assortment of strawberries--some bitten into, others infested with worms, all black and molding.
Humming on no particular tune, he rummaged through the cupboards for his rolling pin.

Determined as ever, and fuming because this was not only a major danger to her but also taking time away from her plans for her next film, Darla leaned forward, looking out front. She had something with her, too, currently hidden in her (heart-shaped) purse. Speeding past, soemthing caught her eye, though she thought nothing of it. "...Pie Hole."
"...Wait! Turn around!"

Ned measured out several ingredients and put them in a saucepan to cook. He opened the door of the refrigerator, wondering if there was anything in there to quench his thirst.

Darla stared hard out the window, face pressed in a scowl against the one-way glass. Soon enough, she reached the block, and not wanting to arouse suspicions at first, waved for the driver to stop. She slipped out, and with the limo waiting for her, strode with apparent nonchalance toward the Pie Hole.

Ned had removed the saucepan from atop the stove and turned down the flames. He now situated a placemat on the table and laid the pan atop it, allowing its contents to cool.

Darla had reached the door, and had to jump slightly to get ahold of the knob. She was dressed in her "black cloak and sunglasses" outfit, which, while making her look weirdly mature, did nothing to hide her identity from him. Those casually glancing from the street, however, might not be able to tell. The door swung open. (( toonguru.com/CDD/screens/scenes/12/images/CDD012_062.jpg))

The sound of the door rattling open and closed caught Ned's immediate attention. A customer!
He hastily set down the last of the previously decayed strawberries--now a rich, succulent crimson--within his hand into a baked pie shell and wiped his hands on his apron.
"Welcome to the Pie--" Ned cut himself off as he found himself looking into the eyes of none other than... Darla's.

Darla chuckled, adjusting her sunglasses.
"Yes, I'll take a pie...right after you tell me one thing: why did you want to get at their bodies so badly?" Almost casually, she lifted her purse, going through it as if searching for money.
"Oh, and I'm not kidding--make mine peach."

Ned's knees knocked together in a violent frenzy, but he gritted his teeth and rapidly blurted, "Hobby. Hobby. It's a hobby.
"And what would make you think that? That I needed to get to them so badly? I mean, the bodies?"
Oh, like he'd make her a peach pie when he couldn't even get his facts straight. Ned thought he would positively die of fright.

"You kept urging me to tell you where they were," she replied, eyes narrowing. "'So, do you know where they are?' 'And now, can we go to the bodies?' You're definitely hiding something."
She was, of course, expecting him to do as she said, frightened or not.

He shrugged, edging cautiously away from the semicircle counter which acted as the only barrier between him and a possibly gruesome and painful death.
"I was insistent because I wanted to get in and out of that place. Your place. Your house. Mansion. Sorry that you intimidate me?" he added meekly.

She watched him, casually keeping her bag up. Her face deepened into a scowl at his answer, though.
"Oh, don't think you put one over on me because I'm a child," she replied rather heatedly. "You asked about it before we even went to my mansion. Why?" she insisted.
"And I want that pie."
