"Oh! The witch, that gave you the way to speak in people's minds. I think she's one of the more exotic people I've seen."

That made Lavinia perk up entirely, with a very big smile. She had thought they had found the witch - Heike - quite by chance, and that seeking her out again would be nigh on impossible, and learning otherwise, Lavinia wanted to see her again, to... to thank her, if not just stand in her presence and exude faithfulness.
We've seen!, she corrected. Can we see her again?
Another thought occurred to her.
Do you think she knows anything about the - the zombies?

"Well...we could try. She's a bit hard to find. I know if I went back to the house we were in, it wouldn't be there."
Heike, at least in supernatural circles, seemed to be notoriously hard to keep track of.

Lavinia tilted her head completely unassumingly.
How did you find her to help me?

"I knew where she was that one time. Got kind of lucky, that day." She said sheepishly.

Lavinia nodded, a bit more subdued as she thought this over. It was mildly disheartening to think that someone she'd known and who had been quite important to her might not be glimpsed for another hundred years simply because she was so difficult to find.
As she went over how she'd first come to meet Heike in her head, something that seemed quite a big deal struck her and she looked back up at Maria, frowning, although with more of a humane element in her expression. Why were you at the drug-house? she thought, almost softly, as though she didn't want to intrude, but was concerned nonetheless.

Maria laughed good-naturedly.
"Oh, looking for some entertainment or...sustenance. I hadn't found either, though. I did find something even better." She said with a smile.

Lavinia's smile grew before her expression became slightly glazed and distant.
I look to forget, she thought almost bashfully. But, I suppose...I found something better too. She suddenly impulsively put her arm out to Maria as though to take her hand, but of course, it was a pointless, incongruous gesture.

She understood the gesture, and did what she considered the next best thing: as there was no hand to clasp, she instead clasped the other woman's shoulder. "I've always liked when I find something good that I hadn't been looking for at the time. Pleasant surprise! "
