"Oh, well, that's no great riddle. Am I not a cat, after all? Certainly it comes no surprise to anyone who's ever encountered one of us whiskered compatriots, to know that we quite naturally come to disappearing."

"You must be a special kind of cat, to disappear like that. Do you have a name?"

"Better than that, I have more than a few! Your friend, the enigmatic lady - red in hair, face, and temper - seems to enjoy calling me 'Fate'...though personally, I would not attach myself to so rigid a title."
The floating eyes and mouth moved in a quick circle around her shoulders, necessitating the turning of a head to follow their path.
"I am anything but set in stone."

Kim wouldn't call the woman with the red hair her friend, though she wouldn't call her an enemy. She hadn't quite figured out just what had been up with her.
"I think it would be much more fun to always guess what you are."
He made her think of her childhood, even though it hadn't been a particlularly rosy one. He reminded her of the characters she'd made up while playing make-believe.
"I shall call you Cat, because it's as good as any other name."
((For some reason I'm now picturing Kim's childhood as being like Ofelia in Pan's Labyrinth...but without that ending.))

((God, I love that movie.))
"I always did enjoy a good guessing game. Or any game at all, really."
The cat finally reappeared, perched on one of her shoulders as it casually groomed its paw.
"And there's certainly nothing wrong with calling things as you see them...assuming you can see them at all."

She jumped a bit when he appeared on her shoulder, but she quickly recovered and turned her head a bit to talk to him.
"It's been a while since I played any games." She said wistfully.

"And why-ever not? Is it because you couldn't find anyone to play with?"
The cat cocked its head, grinning especially broadly.

That grin could almost be creepy...except it was a purple talking cat that it belonged to.
"Actually, yes. I don't think anyone would join me if I asked them to jump rope."

"Ohhh? And now why is that? No big fans of...rope tricks?" The cat's tail swished through the air, fluidly.
"Though I've always been more fond of Cat's Cradle, myself."

"They'd probably say it's too childish for rop tricks."
She chuckled at the Cat's Cradle comment.
"That can be fun. It would be nice to do that again, for old time's sake."

"Well, I'd offer up my paws, but," the cat held them out to demonstrate, "I think you'll find they're not suited to the task."
It continued with a mischevious glimmer in its eyes.
"But maybe we can find you somebody else to play with."

The entire conversation, and her companion, had her feeling like a kid again, and she didn't really want any of it to end.
"That would be great! But, where should we look?"

(Excuse me, looking for an active place to insert my first character into the plot, this looks likely or at least open, so... Here I go. Will delete if either of you desire. *bows*)
Reinforce dropped to the surface of the Opera House roof with the gentle hum of discharging magic some 15 yards from the conversing duo. The wind rustled the tails of her heavily-stylized blue trenchcoat and tangled her long, white hair. Blood-red eyes narrowed on her stern face as she considered her grimy surroundings, dismissing the magics that had borne her aloft even while she kept a careful grip on the cross-emblazoned tome in her right hand.
Reinforce took a deep breath or two, gaze abstracted and steeling herself for the trials ahead, the pairs of wings sprouting from her shoulders, lower back, and temples vanishing into purple mist that caught the light for a few seconds and was gone.

((Sounds good to me. Welcome!))
The cat arched an eyebrow.
"Well. I think that'll do."

Kim froze in place at the sight of the...the apparition, her eyes widening as she tried to process what it was she was looking at. Certainly, the talking purple cat on her shoulder was strange, but this was something else entirely.
She stood rooted to the spot, trying to calculate how fast it would take her to make to the door on the roof.
"I...I don't think..."
