Hazel looked warmly up at John. Her hazel eyes sparkled like stars, and in her eyes were no doubt what she felt for her new family.
"There are no better Papa'th any other plathe in the world."

"Nope!" Marie giggled "Not in the whole world" she looked at her father with nothing but admiration. It was at times like this she almost didn't want to go away to school, she'd be gone from Paris and gone from her family for almost five years.
But the money had been set aside years before and her place had been held that long. She had told her father a million times to take the money, put it toward the shelter, but he refused, saying he wanted more for his daughter than this provincial life.
She took a drink from her water cup and sat back in her chair.
Plus he'll have Hazel, until he finds a way to send her to school.

Hazel noticed Marie was more quiet than usual during the dinner, and looked up at her.
"What are you thinking about, Marie?"

"The future" and it was true, however an odd response for a ten year old.

Hazel looked up at Marie.
"But the future ith far away! Can't you be happy with what we have now?"
She hugged her adoptive sister lovingly.

"For me, it's only three years away" well actually two, seeing as her birthday was in a month.

Hazel smiled. She had worked on an embroidery she wanted to give to Marie for her birthday. It was a shawl, with Lucky London embroidered on it. She hoped Marie would like it.
"Three yearth?" She had heard someone speaking of a school, and knew that Marie would be gone for a long time. "For how long will you be gone?"

((But they just got the dog, like an hour ago, how could she have been working on it so quickly?))
"Five years!" She almost yelled "Five years, I mean I'll be there but I can visit for the holidays a-a-and you guy's can always visit me and stuff."

((To be honest she hasn't gotten very far. But with a child's optimism, she thinks it will be ready for Marie's birthday in a month )) Hazel hugged Marie gently. "I can write to you, can't I? If Papa helpth me? And I will definitely vithit you at thchool."
