Figwit's mouth quirked.
"You might have mentioned that sooner," he said. "But I'm glad you found them. We should look--but quietly."

*Wild furrowed her eyebrows as she heard about Nightfall's discovery. And now she was clearly worried.*
"We should also look very carefully. THEY are experts in setting up traps that can capture their victims, even if their intelligence can't be compared to that of elves or humans. THEY are more cunning, or sneaky, in a sleazy way. Digging a hole in the ground and covering it with something would be childs play for THEM."

"That would be child's play for anyone," Kirk observed, not terribly impressed, but Figwit shushed him with a motion of his hand.
"Would you recognize the signs, Wild, if you saw them?"

*Wild nodded shortly.*
"I can even recognize the signs if I feel them. And if I do, I'll stop you. Immediately."

*Nightfall looked up at her big brother.*
"But... I was sneaking all the way up to the bush. And I didn't fall into a hole."

"Granted," Figwit said to Nightfall. "But you may have been lucky. Let us approach with caution."

*Nightfall took her brother's hand, eager to show him where she had found the first footprints. She pointed to some bushes right next to where she had first arrived.*
"This is where I found the first footprints. They are moving in that direction."
*She pointed a little more to the east.*
"But we can't see the bush from here."

Figwit nodded.
"I had not hoped to find any so quickly."
He glanced about the forest for any sign of movement, and saw none. He heard nothing but the breathing of his own companions.
"Quietly, then. If we do encounter them, remember out plan. Any questions?"

*Nightfall looked around. She didn't have any questions, since her brother had explained everything perfectly well. And Wild was also quiet. But she had been more quiet than usual lately. Nightfall guessed it was because of the failed wedding. She felt really sorry for her.
Nightfall waited for the men to take the lead.*

Figwit glanced at everyone before starting forward on silent feet, following the tracks without obscuring them, all the way to the bush.

*Wild followed Figwit, without making a noise. All her senses were open and sharpened, ready for the tiniest warning about traps. But she didn't get any warning. The coast was clear. Wild gave Figwit a nod, as a signal that no traps were detected.
Then she lifted her palms against the bush, and made it levitate. Under the bush was hidden...*

...nothing.
At least, that's what it looked like at first. But the elves' sharp eyes detected something strange about the terrain about the area. Something like a seam.
"It's a door," Figwit whispered so low that only the elves could hear--not to keep it from Kirk, but because he felt the need to be as quiet as possible. "We must assume they are somewhere behind it; we must vote whether we wish to track them through this opening, or prefer to seek them above ground."

*Wild looked around her, all her sharp senses open, also the magic ones.*
"There are nobody here but us."
*She whispered.*
"I suggest we try to find out where this entrance leads. Maybe we have found a secret entrance to a cave or something. Who will go first, and who will go last?"

"I'll go last," Kirk offered. Figwit glanced at him for a moment, and nodded. Kirk was strong, and he could deal with anything sneaking up on them.
"If there are no objections, I will go first," Figwit said. He bent to examine the seams, his long fingers prying into the edges of the hidden door. It was crudely made, and as he pulled it up the stench arrested them. Figwit averted his face and held his breath.

*Wild and Nightfall grimaced when they smelled the stench. Wild quickly held her hand over Nightfall's mouth to stop her from commenting the smell. The message was clear: No sound must be made.
Nightfall nodded and kept her mouth shut. They were ready to enter whatever was ahead of them.*
