*Wild smiled. She had problems with keeping herself serious, especially when Nightfall had tried to melt her big brother's heart with that doe-eye look. She wondered if it had worked. Figwit was always so stoic, so she couldn't notice anything on him. She turned away for a while, trying to get serious, before she replied.*
"Very well, Figwit. As you know, I have spent several months to study THEM. I know in what areas they live. Unfortunately I have bad news for you. They are scattered over a large area, so our journey may take longer than we first thought."
*She paused for a moment.*
"We all know that they can make toast of us if they want to. So it would not be wise to walk directly into the area where they live. I suggest we start by the border in the West. From there, the forest will hide us until we find the first colony."

Figwit nodded.
"I did not expect this to be easy," he said. He turned west and began walking without preamble, expecting the others to fall in behind.

*Nightfall followed after Figwit, still a little pale. How close it was that her adventure had ended before it started.*
OK. If I am going on this trip, without getting sent back home, I have to make some ground rules.
Rule number one: NO MORE SAYING I AM 12-ISH!!! It is time to prove I am not a child anymore. I have to take responsibility for what I do, and stand by it, like any adult person.
Rule number two: Stop playing childish pranks or doing anything that can make me look like a child.
Rule number three: Do exactly what Figwit says without any comments or protests. I have to show myself worthy of his trust. I am lucky he would bring me at all.
There may be more rules underways, but these are the most important right now.

Figwit smiled grimly to himself as he walked. She was trying. He just hoped it would be enough.
The others followed, and he heard the low murmur of Kirk asking Wild how she was feeling.

*Wild looked up at Kirk, grateful for his concern.*
"I feel like someone has ripped open my chest with a sharp object, ripped out my heart and stepped on it. Right now it feels like I will never feel capable of laughing again, or worse: trust anyone again."
*She looked mildly up at Kirk.*
"And you, how have you been lately?"

"But you will," he said with certainty. He didn't say it, but he knew she'd had her doubts about the marriage to begin with. He smiled down at her as they walked.
"Fine. Bored, truth be told."

*Wild smiled to him.*
"I am glad you came with us, James. It feels good to have someone to talk to. I am sorry I didn't listen to your warnings. You were right."

"That doesn't matter," he assured her. "You have to do what you think is best."

*Wild smiled and gave his arm a friendly squeeze.*
"You know what I love the most about you? Your optimism. No matter how dark it seems to be around us, no matter how dangerous things become, you always have a smile. I have never seen you depressed. Do you remember how you saved my life in the Swamps of Sadness?"
*Suddenly she remembered the hot kiss he had given her to bring her back to the human world again, after she had been trapped by The Lost Spirits. She blushed deeply and lowered her head, not daring to look at him. The thought of his kisses still made her heart beat faster and her cheeks to blush. He had been a good kisser. Did he remember their kisses as well?*
Wild, you must put that behind you. It is over now. Everything is over. You couldn't even get married. Your so-called fiance left you. And the worst part is that you deserved it. So why are you so heartbroken and miserable?
*She felt her tears burning behind her eyelids, and she swallowed hard, trying to fight them back. She hadn't cried at all after the wedding. And she didn't intend to start now.*

"I do," he said gently, smiling softly. It wasn't that he didn't feel things. He felt them deeply. But Kirk was a natural optimist, secure enough in his own abilities to know he'd come out on top.
He also knew it would be a prime opportunity to make Wild forget her troubles for a time. If he so wished.
"It's not that I don't get sad," he said at last. "It's that I know it will get better."

*Wild smiled bitterly.*
"It seems to work better for humans than for Dark Elves. Because I can't see anything but darkness right now."
*They had finally come to the West border. Wild stepped forward and stretched out her hand. She said something in Elvish, and a portal opened in the Wall. Wild tilted her head towards the portal, as a hint to the others in the group to pass.*
"Please, hurry up. I do not wish to play with the safety of Lorien more than necessary."

*Nightfall's beautiful golden eyes widened in wonder when she saw the portal opened. A huge impressed smile lit up her sweet little face.
She had not been in The Land of Shadows before, and did not know if there were any dangers lurking on the other side of the border. There was only one way to find out. She walked through the portal and came out in The Land of Shadows.
It was dark and cold on the other side, and she pulled her cloak closer around her and looked around. The forest was quiet and dark, in an eerie kind of way. Nightfall shuddered and waited for the others to arrive.*

"I don't really believe that," Kirk chided softly. "I think you can see whatever you want."
But they were at the border now, and the time for idle chatter was over. He would have gone first, but Figwit's sister beat him to it. He hoped she had enough sense to stay alive.
He went through, Figwit after him.

*Wild went through as the last person. The portal closed behind her, and disappeared into nothing. Nobody could see that there had been a portall there. Wild smiled brightly and approached the rest of the group.
Nightfall was happy that they were all gathered again. The forest were dark and eerie, and there were sounds here that she didn't recognize from Lorien. Nightfall shuddered and took a step closer to Figwit. She looked around, letting her eyes slowly get used to the darkness around her.*

Figwit noted Nightfall's nervousness and resolved to keep a careful eye on her.
"Very well," he said quietly. "We're here. Now. The more of these 'missions' we need to perform, the greater likelihood we will experience casualties. It would be better to find as many in one place as we can."
