"So someone moved the bodies?"

"Oh yeah."
*Smecker nodded, looking through some accounts with a heavy sigh.*
"I would expect better resources here, but..."
*There seemed a shortage of photographs. He glanced up at her.*
"You up for checking it out?"

*She nodded.*
"'Course."

"Then grab a coat. They're predicting rain."
*Smecker pushed back from the desk and stood, putting on his jacket and raking his hand through his hair.*

*Emily shrugged on a charcoal trench coat and shoved her hands deep into its pockets.*
"Alright. Where to?"

*Smecker lifted the file, leafing through it.*
"A road called...de Belleville? Hell, come on. The cabby'll know it."
*He started towards the door.*

*Harvey knocked on the doorframe, peeking his head in with a boyish grin.*
"Hey, gotta second?"

*Emily glanced up from a case file she'd been poring over, absently rubbing at a crick in her neck from having her head bent over it for so long.*
"Sure. What can I do for you, Mr. Dent?"

*Harvey stepped into the office, just enough to speak civilly without invading personal space. He knew that one's office was one's fortress and well, he didn't figure he was on that level of intimacy with the woman. Or Agent Smecker.*
"I'm looking for some file on Charenton Asylum. Especially any deaths that occurred there. Think you can help me out?"

*Her brow furrowed.*
"I don't recall any recent homicides, but...huh, maybe if we look under suicide something will turn up. Asylums can't be pretty places."
*She took a bundle of keys from her desk and led the way down to the file room, a dark and drear place filled with rows upon rows of stacked filing cabinets, neatly labeled according to some system. It was cold and smelled like dust and slightly damp cardboard. She loved it there. Unlocking the door, she hit the lights to provide some illumination as they ventured inside.*
"Chareton..." *She began walking through the rows of shelves, glancing at the labels.*
"Aha!" *She knelt to unlock the cabinet, pulling out a drawer and flipping through the sheaths of files.* "Anything in particular?"

*Her vigor made him grin. It was refreshing to see. She must be young, still believing that justice can prevail. One that hadn't been too tainted by the way things really worked. Just the kind of person he could use on his team.*
"They may not be labeled homicides, just deaths in general. I came across the case of a M. Renfield and it had a lot of blank spaces left on it. Just trying to figure out if it was a fluke or a pattern. Oh...and any that might concern a Dr. Jonathan Crane."

*Her frown lines deepened for a moment.*
I feel like I...know those names.
"Er...alright. Renfield...under R...Crane...under C..."
*She located a couple of files, both rather thick, and handed them to him.*
"Just what you ordered," *she remarked, wondering why he couldn't have looked himself. Alpabetized files were hardly rocket science.*
Oh, be nice to him, Em. It took you four years to figure out how to use the microfiche at the library.

*Harvey took the files with an appreciative nod. Flipping through it, a light seemed to go off.*
"Ah ha!" *He turned it to her, pointing at various places on the page.*
"See? Just like my copy. Nothing about contact information for the next of kin. And the cause of death...can you even read what that's supposed to be?"
*He looked at her excitedly, like he'd discovered something and was eager to share.*

*She didn't even glance down at the document, but stood with her arms crossed, staring at his face with one eyebrow raised.*
"...maybe he didn't have any family."
