Wolf whined a bit "Don't worry about it your majesty, I'll take care of it" he smiled.

"You're very kind..." *said Susan, smiling slightly.* "But please, just call me Susan." *Although she knew once a king or queen in Narnia, always a king or queen in Narnia, she had to wonder if it had been prudent to introduce herself as such in this other land where it counted for naught. She felt less and less like a queen every minute she was absent from the beauties of Narnia and Cair Paravel.*

He smiled "I'm sorry Susan, I'm used to running around kingdoms and, formality, it's kind of important when you live in place that has 9 kingdoms so close to each other."

Lyra didn't understand why Susan would refuse. It was ice cream, freely offered.
"Don't you like ice cream?" she asked incredulously.

*Susan inclined her head, her smile hesitant.* "I understand, Mr. Wolf, I think..."
*Turning to Lyra, she shook her head.*
"It's not that I don't like ice cream," *she said.* "It's only that I should like to rely on myself as much as I can...it's not fair to always be depending on other people--for me or them."

Lyra had always depending on people, in some sense. Then again, she'd relied on herself inasmuch as she'd been able to finagle as much from any situation as she could.
"Then what are you going to do?" she demanded. "Get a job?"
She looked incredulous at the prospect. Susan might be a queen, but she was just a kid.

"Perhaps I could. I suppose I'll have to," *said Susan firmly.* "I'll think of something..."

Wolf stared at the young woman and was reminded of his Virgina, so strong, yet so troubled.
"B-but you don't have to do it right now!" He smiled ruffling Lyra's hair "we just want someone else to hang out with, plus you could always work here" he motioned to the inn "they are ALWAYS hiring, heck even I work here."

Lyra nodded, even though she felt stupid having her hair ruffled, like he thought she was some stupid kid.
"Yeah, I don't think anyone pays here."

"Really? Well, that's good to know. Is there someone in particular I should speak to, about getting a job, here?"

"Miss Brandi or even Miss Kris, they're nice ladies." ((I found the part of him at the restaurant on youtube!))

As if she'd heard them calling, and in a sense she had, a woman came up all businesslike and anachronistic.
"Welcome," she said to Susan, because she'd seen the others before, of course. "Can I help you, or are you just visiting?"

"Oh!" *Susan smiled at the woman politely.* "I'm Susan. Susan Pevensie. I'm looking for--well, that is, I was wondering if I might have a job and a place to stay, here."

Kris admired her forthrightness (she'd always thought Susan got rather a bad rap, in the last book) and nodded.
"I think we can work something out," she said. "What can you do?"

"Er...well, I'm a fast learner," *said Susan.* "I'm...fairly good at archery, though I can't imagine you'd have any use for that. I can at least try my best at any job you might have."
*She thought it best to leave out the part where she'd lived many years as a Queen in Narnia.*
