"Erik regrets not being able to demonstrate it fully," *he apologized.* "It was... broken yesterday. Perhaps you might return one day soon, when it is once again operational," *he ventured.*

*Death turned back to Erik with a happy smile. He tried not to seem too eager.*
"I would like that very much."
*He shifted awkwardly for a moment.*
"You know...after we get this whole Vianne thing worked out, I figure we should do something...to celebrate. Or something. If you want. I mean...it's no big deal if you don't want to...unless you do..."
Just stop talking.
*He lowered his skull shyly.*

((Aww... It *is* Guy Love, Between Two Guys!))
*Erik felt a treacherous spark of hope at the thought of Vianne coming back to... them.*
"Yes. I think that would be most suitable. Erik has little enough to celebrate; Madame Giry's return would be a welcome change. Are you certain there is nothing Erik can do?"

*Death wished there was something he could offer.*
"I'm sorry. Just wait. I know that's not what you want to hear. I would rather it be over as soon as possible as well."

*Erik nodded.*
"Erik must, of course, trust in your experience in these matters. I have been very good at taking life away; I'm afraid giving it back has never interested me until now. Erik would be of little help, in any event."

*Death smiled gently and touched his shoulder.*
"It's very uncommon for such things to happen except on the 'verse. I'm afraid we're all in untried waters. But I'll get her back. I promise."
*He looked to the door reluctantly.*
"Perhaps I should go. I don't want to keep you. And besides, hopefully I will return soon with good news."

*Erik sighed, breaking his reverie.*
"Yes. Sorry. Erik fears he is even worse company than usual. Perhaps if... when Madame is back among us, we shall all be better companions. Erik should not keep you from your labors, either. Though I hope, at a future time, you will consent to discuss them with me."
*He inclined his head.*
"Erik is most flattered by your visit. Do make free to return when you like. Erik does not make invitations lightly; he is sincere in this one."

*Death smiled and offered his bony hand.*
"I have no doubt of the gravity of your offer and I will be honored to take you up on it. Perhaps we might do it somewhere..."
*He looked back to the room where Megan waited.*
"...with fewer distractions. A man of your skill is deserving of my full attention."

*Erik grimaced in the direction Death indicated.*
"Quite. The reverse is also true."
*He opened the door for Death, and stepped aside. It was a heady thing, being visited by such a master of one's trade. But he knew the rightness of meeting later, under better circumstances.*

*Death smiled with a hint of reluctance.*
"Thank you, sir. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated. I look forward to our next meeting. Best wishes and safe congress until then."
*He turned to the door and walked through it, growing shorter as he descended some intangible steps into the shadow and vanished.*
