"I wouldn't hear of it," *Figwit said.* "You are my guest."
*He bent forward and kissed her brow, smoothing her hair back.*
"Sleep well, maethoring."

Well, when he put it that way...
*She snuggled down, nesting in the supportive cords of the hammock, smiling to herself about how lovely his voice was but suddenly wondering...*
"What does that mean? Maethoring?"
*The blue of her eyes peeked up from beneath the blonde lashes.*

*Figwit smiled sheepishly, a little ashamed of his whim.*
"It means 'little warrior' in the language of the Elves," *he said.* "I hope you are not offended."

*Eden brightened, then blushed, shaking her head eagerly.*
"Oh, no! I love it. I just..."
*She bit her lip.*
I just don't know anything sweet to call you.
*She shook her head again, the thought unspoken.*
"I should let you sleep. Thanks..again."

"As should you," *he said, touched (though confused) by her flustered response. He hadn't the slightest idea why anyone, let alone a child, should find him so interesting.* "Wake me should you need anything. It will not be hard."
*He smiled again and took his place on the floor, looking for all the world as if he belonged there, as comfortable as in a fine hotel.*

"K." *She answered succinctly, burrowing in the hammock, wrapping it tightly around her. Soon she was asleep. It was something she had never had all that much trouble with.*

*Figwit woke with the dawn, his first thought for Eden. She slept peacefully, like the angels of the humans though he'd never compare them to her face. He smiled involuntarily at the sight of her and went about--silently--concocting breakfast for her.
The fare was similar to what one might consider breakfast, but lighter and less processed, the elements like but not quite the same. The fruit was slightly different, the pancake-like bread fluffier and less dense. Nothing smothered in syrup or gravy; everything had its own flavor and did not need accompaniment. Elven food was meant to be eaten as a combination of many simple dishes, rather than a complex main course with sides.
And it would keep until she woke.*

*Eden shot up, awaking with a start and looking quite on the defensive, her eyes wildly taking in the unfamiliar surrounding. But then she remembered.*
"Um, Figwit?"
*She crept out of the hammock, making her way towards the interesting smell.*

*Figwit stood beside the table, smiling gently.*
"Right here, Eden," *he said.* "I hope you slept well."

"Fine." *She answered flatly, but it wasn't the truth. She'd had a nightmare. One about Pops and the other... Eden managed a smile, surveying the food.*
"What's all this for?"

"It's breakfast."
*Figwit's smile fell to his habitual blank expression.*
"What troubles you, Eden? Did you sleep poorly?

"It's nothing. Just..." *She shook her head.*
"Nothing worth spoiling such a pretty meal over."
*She brightened instantly, bouncing over to the table to look everything over.*
"I didn't know you could, you know, make so much food and stuff."

*Figwit laughed gently.*
"Elves do eat," *he pointed out.* "But I hope it is to your liking."

"Well, yeah..." *Eden rolled her eyes, but in good humor.*
"I just didn't know that you ate pretty stuff. I..."
I'm used to simpler fare.
"I can't make stuff like this."
*Any sadness in her voice vanished as quickly as it had come.*
"But I can eat it!"
*She grinned and sat.*

*Figwit surveyed the small spread. It didn't look fancy to him; it was quite plain, really, and required the combination of elements to be truly appreciated.*
"Then eat," *he said with a smile.* "No one's asking you to make... 'pretty' food."
